A diamond that carries the family's heritage was stolen from the house of a landlord in Saptagarh. A news story published on YouTube went viral.

Gamalbabu, known as the Zamindar of Saptagarh, is a very good man. The Zamindari of the British era no longer exists. When the Zamindari system existed, Gamalbabu's great-grandfather was the Zamindari of Saptagarh. Today, that Zamindari system no longer exists, but Gamalbabu is still known as the Zamindar of Saptagarh. Many Zamindars of Bangladesh migrated to India during the partition of the country in 1947. Although many of Gamalbabu's relatives migrated to India, Gamalbabu's father remained in Bangladesh. Their Zamindari was gone at that time. But they themselves bought more land again. No one else in this area owns so much land. Gamalbabu is still known as the Zamindar of Saptagarh because of the past Zamindari and the current ownership of so much land.

The diamond, which carries their family heritage, also has a history. Gamalbabu is not the owner of this diamond through generations, but rather bought it from other family members. Currently, he is the sole owner of this diamond. Gamalbabu's great-grandfather once went to Kashi, India. He stayed there for a month. Then he met a man from Tamil Nadu. He bought the diamond from that man. Since then, this diamond has been in Gamalbabu's family through generations and currently, Gamalbabu is the owner of this diamond.

In the meantime, this diamond has been stolen. In the interview, Gamalbabu said, “This diamond was in an iron box in my house, so I will say that my diamond was stolen. I will never say that my diamond was lost. If I had gone out of the house with my diamond and returned home and found that my diamond was not with me, then I would have said that my diamond was lost.”

RJ Chowdhury watched the entire news.

The next day, RJ Chowdhury received a call from an unknown number. After RJ Chowdhury answered the call, the other end said, "Are you RJ Chowdhury?"

RJ Chowdhury said, “Then give me the location of your house on WhatsApp. I will come.” Hearing this, Gamalbabu gave the location of his house on WhatsApp. 

The next day, RJ Chowdhury went to the house of Gamal Kishore Roy Chowdhury, the landlord of Saptagarh.

RJ Chowdhury said, "I want to see the chest in your house where the diamond was."

Hearing this, Gamalbabu went to the ark with RJ Chowdhury.

RJ Chowdhury checked the box carefully and said, "The box was opened with the key and the diamond was stolen. There is no scratch on the box. Where is the key to the box?"

Gamalbabu said, “I always keep the key to the chest with me. And when I take a bath, I keep it under my pillow. It is also under my pillow when I sleep.”

RJ Chowdhury said, “Do outsiders come and go in your house?”

Gamalbabu said, "Basically, there are different arrangements for different people. RJ Chowdhury said, "Yes, maybe that's why you are still called the landlord of Saptagarh. Then according to your description, it must be said that your family members stole that diamond."

Gamal Babu stood up in surprise and said, "Why are you saying this?"

RJ Chowdhury said, "No one except your family members can enter your personal room. So naturally anyone might suspect that your family members stole that diamond."

Gamalbabu was silent for a while and then said, "There is logic in what you say."

RJ Chowdhury said, "Naturally, that's what anyone would suspect. Well, have you contacted the police?"

Gamalbabu said, "I have filed a case in the police station in the name of unknown persons. The police are investigating on their own. I have heard about you. So, in addition to the police investigation, I have appointed you to conduct a private investigation."

Then RJ Chowdhury talked to everyone in the house. Who was where on the day of the diamond theft? What were they doing? They discussed other topics, including other topics. This is how the first day passed.

The next day, RJ Chowdhury went to the roof of the house. From the roof, he saw Gamal Babu's huge land. Gamal Babu has a huge fishery a little away from the house. In another, we cultivate Rui, Katal, Mahashol, etc. The biggest advantage of cultivating this way is the convenience of providing feed (fish food) according to the pond. Pangasius fish eat the feed, Nile tilapia fish eat the feed, and horn magur fish eat the feed. And when it comes to selling, it is possible to easily catch only the fish that needs to be sold."

RJ Chowdhury said, "Well, then you are doing commercial fish farming in full swing. Where do you get the fish feed from? There are many companies in Bangladesh that make fish feed."

Gamalbabu said, "We make our own feed. We mix corn, soy, dried fish, etc. to make our own feed. And a veterinary doctor supplies the medicine to be added to the feed. He gives the formula for which medicine should be added to which fish feed. Our main benefit from this is that we can make large quantities of good quality feed at a low cost."

RJ Chowdhury said, “Well, where do you sell fish?”

Gamalbabu said, “We don’t sell fish in any specific market or area. We sell fish to the wholesale buyers who come and pay the highest price.”

RJ Chowdhury said, “I like your fisheries management system. Okay, I will start the investigation now. You can do your work. If necessary, I will go to you.”

Then Gamal Babu went back to his work and RJ Chowdhury started the investigation.

RJ Chowdhury worked on the investigation all day. After dinner, RJ Chowdhury said to Gamal Babu, "Gamal Babu, I will catch the diamond thief tonight. Will you go with me to catch the thief?"

Gamalbabu said, "Isn't that right? I will definitely go with you to catch the thief."

Then at midnight, RJ Chowdhury and Gamal Babu went out to catch the thief. RJ Chowdhury had his favorite pistol, Glock Nineteen. And Gamal Babu had a two-barreled gun bought by his father. Although this gun had not been fired for a long time, it was regularly maintained. It was a full moon night, the moon was shining brightly. Despite this, RJ Chowdhury brought a small but powerful torch light with him.

RJ Chowdhury was walking to catch the thief and Gamalbabu was following him. RJ Chowdhury walked to the side of the Sing-Magur pond. There were a few trees on the bank of the pond, RJ Chowdhury and Gamalbabu hid behind those trees. It was past midnight when a man was seen approaching the Sing-Magur pond with his face covered by a towel. Seeing him, RJ Chowdhury said to Gamalbabu, “Be ready to catch that thief who is coming.”

The thief came and went to a corner of the horned pond. Then he grabbed a rope tied to a pole and started pulling it. The thief pulled and pulled a net. Then the thief took out a Cain Magur from inside the net. The head of the Cain Magur started to shine in the moonlight. Basically, this is that diamond, the Saptagarh diamond. The diamond has been tied to two thorns of the Cain Magur with a spear-tying thread. First, the diamond is tied well to a piece of net, then it is tied to the thorns of the Cain Magur.

The thief took a knife out of his pocket, cut the thread tied to the thorn of the cain magur. Then he put the diamond in his pocket, and threw the cain magur into the pond.

The thief wiped his hands on his pants, took out his mobile phone from his pocket. He called a number, and someone on the other end said, "Hello, what's up?"

The thief said, "Boss, the diamond is in my pocket. When will you come?"

The other side said, "I'm coming tomorrow."

The thief said, "Boss, I have to lead the thieves, robbers, and goons of Chawkbazar in ancient Dhaka. You gave me your word."

The other side said, "Yes, I will keep my promise to you. You can come to Purana Dhaka and earn a lot of money by being a chief for a month. That money will be much more than the value of this diamond."

The thief said, "That's why I stole the diamond for you."

As the thief started to leave with the diamond, RJ Chowdhury roared and said, "Be careful! If you run or you throw the diamond away, I will shoot you to death." RJ Chowdhury had a Glock 19 pistol in his hand, and Gamal Babu had a double-barreled gun in his hand. The thief could clearly see them in the moonlight.

The thief was afraid and said, “Sir, don’t kill me, I’ll give you the diamond.” Saying this, the thief threw the diamond towards RJ Chowdhury. RJ Chowdhury held it in his left hand. Seeing it, he said, “Gamalbabu, here is your diamond. Check if it is your genuine diamond or not.” Then RJ Chowdhury gave the diamond to Gamalbabu. Gamalbabu checked the diamond in the light of the flashlight and said, “Yes, this is my diamond.”

Gamalbabu said to the thief, "Who are you? Remove the towel from your face."

The thief removed the towel from his face. Seeing him, Gamalbabu was shocked and said, "Hey, Padan, you? Did you steal my diamond after all?"

The thief was about to say something, but RJ Chowdhury stopped him and said, "Not here, but go to Gamal Babu's meeting room. You will talk there."

Then Padan started walking, followed by Gamalbabu and RJ Chowdhury with guns and pistols in their hands.

In the meeting room, Padan started saying, "I have been working in Gamal Babu's house for thirty years. I started working in Gamal Babu's house when I was ten years old. I was young then, so I used to do light work. For example: - taking down fruits like guava, mango, jam, litchi etc. from the trees, drying clothes in the sun.

Then, as I grew older, my work also increased. I started doing heavy work, carrying sacks of rice from the fields on my head, drying the rice in the sun, breaking it on my head, etc. But what did I get in return? Boiled rice, burnt chillies and rotten onions in the morning. A solid meal at noon and a cold lunch at night. This is how I spent thirty years. But this time I got a chance to change my fate. That too did not happen.”

Gamalbabu said, "Who told you that stealing my diamond will change your fate?"

Padan said, "A week ago I went to Saptagarh market. I met a stranger at a tea shop. The man asked about me. Then I told him about me. Then the man said, 'You have ended your life. If you had driven a rickshaw in Dhaka city, you would have earned a lot of money. And with that money you could have built a building in your village. But you have wasted your life working in the house of that man named the zamindar of Saptagarh. You are forty years old, the age to earn money by working in life is basically up to forty years. You have ended this age working in the house of that man named the zamindar of Saptagarh. But I can give you a chance to suddenly become very rich.' Hearing these words, a storm swept through my mind. The man had spoken the truth. I had worked in Gamal Babu's house for thirty years of my life, but I could not build a house properly. I could not even save that much money. So I agreed to the man's words and said, 'Yes, I suddenly want to become a very rich man. Tell me, what should I do?' The man then whispered to me, 'You must steal the diamond that is the heritage of the family of Gamal Babu, the landlord of Saptagarh, and give it to me.'"

RJ Chowdhury said, "Why did you go to Saptagarh Bazaar that day? Did you go to that tea shop yourself to drink tea or did someone else take you?"

Padan said, "I didn't go to Saptagarh Bazaar myself that day. Instead, my friend Panju called me and took me to that tea shop."

RJ Chowdhury said, "Gamalbabu, you will file a case against Panju for his involvement in the diamond theft."

Gamalbabu said, "Of course I will file a case against Panju. If necessary, we will catch Panju and hand him over to the police station."

Padan said, "By then I had started drinking tea and paan (after drinking tea, I started drinking paan). I asked the man, 'How much money will you give me?' The man said, 'My name is Dhatan Bepari. I came to ancient Dhaka from Barisal as a child. I have stolen money from people's pockets, I have become rich by stealing, robbing, extorting and extorting. I will not give you cash in exchange for stealing diamonds, but rather I will take you down to the money mine, then you can loot as much money as you can.' Hearing this, I could not control my greed. I said like a greedy man, 'How is that?' The gold dealer said, 'If you steal the diamond, I will make you the leader of the thieves and robbers of ancient Dhaka. Then you yourself will be able to steal, rob and extort. And you will get a lot of money as a percentage from all the thieves, robbers and extortionists of Chawkbazar. People are ready to spend crores of taka for such a position, but we do not give them any chance. But you will steal just one diamond and bring it to me, in return for which I will give you that position.' After that, I planned to steal that diamond. Gamalbabu's son's clothes were given to me to take to the laundry. Then I wore Gamalbabu's son's clothes and stole the diamond. Seeing the clothes, everyone thought that I was Gamalbabu's son. Then I stole the diamond and brought the clothes to the laundry.

Gamalbabu said, “Well, why did you tie the diamond to the thorns of the cain magur like that?”

"The Cain Magur fish come up to the surface when they are feeding, eat the floating feed and then go back down to the bottom of the water. This was the perfect way to hide the diamond," Padan said.

Gamalbabu said, "Why did you come to remove the diamond at night?"

Padan said, "During the day, I saw RJ Chowdhury pulling on a rope tied to a pole. So I came tonight to remove the diamond."

Gamalbabu said with a smile, "How did you know that the diamond was in this place?"

RJ Chowdhury said, "During the day, I saw that Padan was feeding separately inside that net. So after Padan came, I grabbed the rope of that net and pulled it. At that time, the Cain Magu fish had not finished eating the feed. So I was able to see the diamond stuck in the Cain Magu's thorn. And I deliberately grabbed the rope and pulled it."

Gamalbabu said, "You could have recovered the diamond right away if you wanted to. Then why did you hide behind a tree with me at night?"

RJ Chowdhury said, “Yes, I could have recovered the diamond right away. But I took you at night to catch the thief red-handed. I deliberately pulled on that rope so that Padan would see it and come to take the diamond. And I was looking at it through the window all day. Whenever Padan came to remove the diamond, I would catch him. But when he didn’t come all day, I told him that Padan would come at night to remove the diamond. So I took you with me and hid behind a tree.”

RJ Chowdhury told Padan, "You call Panju and tell him to come and pick up the diamond." Then RJ Chowdhury told him what to say.

As RJ Chowdhury had said, Padan called Panju and said, "Panjuda, now come behind Gamal Babu's Fisheries office. I will wait there with the diamond, you come and get it."

When Padan finished speaking, Panju disconnected the phone line. Then, as RJ Chowdhury had said, Gamalbabu took Padan's mobile phone and put it in the drawer of the meeting room table and locked it. Then, Gamalbabu kept Padan inside the meeting room and locked the door outside. Then, he and RJ Chowdhury hid behind the office. After a while, Panju came. When he came, he couldn't find Padan and said to himself, "Hey Padan, where are you? I have come to get the diamond."

As soon as he finished speaking, RJ Chowdhury and Gamal Babu came out from behind. Gamal Babu said to Panju, “Have you come to get diamonds? Here, instead of diamonds, you will get a punch.” As soon as he finished speaking, RJ Chowdhury and Gamal Babu started punching Panju indiscriminately. Panju cried and said, “Sir, sir, I am not at fault. All the blame lies with the thief chief of Purana Dhaka, Dhatan Bepari.”

Gamalbabu said, "Then call the metal dealer now and tell him to come to Saptgarh early tomorrow."

RJ Chowdhury told me what to say.

Panju then called the diamond dealer, "Dhatan Bhai, come and get the diamond as soon as possible. He is afraid to keep the diamond with us."

The metal dealer said, "Don't worry. I'll leave in the morning with the car." Saying this, the metal dealer hung up the phone.

RJ Chowdhury said, “How did you get in touch with the metal dealer?”

Panju said, “I didn’t know the gold dealer. Suddenly, I met the gold dealer in Saptagarh market. He talked to me a lot. Finally, he said to me, ‘Can you bring me someone who works in Gamal Babu’s house?’ Then I called Padan. Then the three of us conspired to steal the diamond.”

Then Panju was also detained with Padan and Gamalbabu left Panju's phone with Padan's phone.

That afternoon, the gold dealer came to Saptagarh Bazar. After arriving at Saptagarh Bazar, the gold dealer called Panju. Gamalbabu took the ringing phone out of the drawer and gave it to Panju. He answered the phone. From the other end, the gold dealer said, “I have just arrived at Saptagarh Bazar. I am at that tea shop, you come quickly and bring the diamond.”

Then Gamalbabu put Panju's mobile phone back in the drawer. Gamalbabu left the house, leaving Panju and Padan behind. They got on Gamalbabu's motorcycle, RJ Chowdhury in front and Gamalbabu behind. RJ Chowdhury had gone to Saptagarh Bazar yesterday. So RJ Chowdhury knew the road to Saptagarh. In a short time, RJ Chowdhury and Gamalbabu reached Saptagarh Bazar. After finding Dhatan in that tea shop, RJ Chowdhury and Gamalbabu started punching him indiscriminately. Seeing that, the people of the market came running and gathered. Someone said to Gamalbabu, "Landlord Babu, have you finally started beating people too?"

Gamalbabu said, “This person is the one who stole my diamond. This person is the real thief.” Then Gamalbabu and RJ Chowdhury, along with the gold dealer, entered the meeting room.

After questioning the metal deale

সপ্তগড়ের জমিদারের বাড়ি থেকে তাঁদের পরিবারের ঐতিহ্য বহনকারী হীরে চুরি হয়েছে _ ইউটিউবে প্রকাশিত এরকম একটা সংবাদ বেশ প্রচারিত হলো।

আরজে চৌধুরী সেই সংবাদটা দেখলো।

সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার নামে পরিচিত গমলবাবু খুবই ভালো মানুষ। ব্রিটিশ আমলের জমিদারি এখন নাই। যখন জমিদারি প্রথা ছিলো, তখন গমলবাবুর প্রপিতামহ  সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার ছিলেন। বর্তমানে সেই জমিদারি প্রথা এখন নাই, কিন্তু গমলবাবু এখনও সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার হিসেবেই পরিচিত। বাংলাদেশের অনেক জমিদার ১৯৪৭ এ দেশভাগের সময়ে ভারতে চলে গিয়েছিলেন। গমলবাবুর অনেক আত্মীয় স্বজন ভারতে চলে গেলেও গমলবাবুর বাবা বাংলাদেশে অবস্থান করেন। তাঁদের জমিদারি চলে গিয়েছিলো তখন। কিন্তু নিজেরা আবার নতুন করে আরো জমি ক্রয় করেন। এতো জমির মালিক এই এলাকায় অন্য কেউ নাই। অতীতের জমিদারি আর বর্তমানে এতো জমির মালিকানার কারণেই গমলবাবু আজো সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার নামে পরিচিত।

তাঁদের পরিবারের ঐতিহ্য বহনকারী ওই হীরেটারও একটা ইতিহাস আছে। গমলবাবু বংশ পরম্পরায় এই হীরের মালিক না, বরং পরিবারের অন্যান্য অংশীদারের কাছ থেকে কিনে নিয়েছেন। বর্তমানে তিনিই এই হীরের একক মালিক। গমলবাবুর প্রপিতামহ একবার গিয়েছিলেন ভারতের কাশীতে। সেই স্থানে ছিলেন এক মাস। তখন তামিলনাডুর এক ব্যক্তির সাথে তাঁর পরিচয় হয়। সেই ব্যক্তির কাছ থেকেই তিনি ওই হীরেটা ক্রয় করেন। এরপর থেকেই বংশ পরম্পরায় এই হীরে গমলবাবুর পরিবারের কাছে আছে এবং বর্তমানে এই হীরের মালিক গমলবাবু।

এরই মধ্যে এই হীরেটা চুরি হয়ে গিয়েছে। সাক্ষাৎকারে গমলবাবু বললেন,“আমার বাড়ির লোহার সিন্দুকে এই হীরে ছিলো, তাই আমি বলবো আমার হীরে চুরি হয়ে গিয়েছে। কখনই বলবোনা আমার হীরে হারিয়ে গিয়েছে। যদি আমার হীরে নিয়ে বাড়ির বাইরে আমি বের হতাম এবং বাড়িতে ফিরে এসে যদি আমি দেখতাম আমার হীরে সাথে নাই, তাহলে হয়তো বলতাম, আমার হীরে হারিয়ে গিয়েছে।”

সংবাদের পুরোটাই আরজে চৌধুরী দেখলো।

পরদিন একটা অচেনা নাম্বার থেকে আরজে চৌধুরীর নাম্বারে ফোন এলো। আরজে চৌধুরী ফোন রিসিভ করার পর অপর প্রান্ত থেকে বলা হলো,“আপনি কী আরজে চৌধুরী?”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“হ্যাঁ, আমি আরজে চৌধুরী। কিন্তু আপনাকে তো আমি চিনলামনা। কে আপনি?”

অপরপ্রান্ত থেকে বলা হলো,“আমি গমলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরী। আমার বাড়ি সপ্তগড়ে, আগে আমাদের প্রথাগত জমিদারি ছিলো, এখন নাই। কিন্তু বর্তমানেও আমাদের অনেক জমিজমা আছে, তাই অনেকেই আমাকে সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার বলে অভিহিত করেন। আমার একটা হীরে আছে, এটা আমার পরিবারের ঐতিহ্য। এই সংক্রান্ত একটা সংবাদ ইউটিউবে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“হ্যাঁ, আমি দেখেছি ওই সংবাদটা।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“তাহলে তো অনেক কিছুই জেনেছেন। আপনাকে আমার ফোন করার উদ্দেশ্য হলো, আমাকছ আপনি ওই হীরে উদ্ধার করে দেবেন। বিনিময়ে আপনাকে যথাযথ পারিশ্রমিক ও সম্মানি দেবো।”

এরপর আরজে চৌধুরীকে পে_পালে পেন্ট দিয়ে দিলেন গমলবাবু।

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“তাহলে আমাকে আপনি হোয়াটসঅ্যাপে আপনার বাড়ির লোকেশন দিয়ে দেন। আমি চলে আসবো।” একথা শোনে গমলবাবু হোয়াটসঅ্যাপে তাঁর বাড়ির লোকেশন দিয়ে দিলেন। 

পরদিন আরজে চৌধুরী চলে এলো সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার গমলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরীর বাড়িতে।

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“আপনার বাড়ির যে সিন্দুকে হীরেটা ছিলো, সেই সিন্দুকটা আমি দেখতে চাই।”

একথা শোনে আরজে চৌধুরীকে নিয়ে গমলবাবু চলে এলেন সেই সিন্দুকটার কাছে।

আরজে চৌধুরী সিন্দুকটা ভালোভাবে চেক করে বললো,“চাবির দ্বারাই সিন্দুকটা খোলা হয়েছে এবং হীরেটা চুরি করা হয়েছে। সিন্দুকে কোনো রকমের আঁচড়ের দাগ নাই। সিন্দুকের চাবি কোথায় থাকে?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“সিন্দুকের চাবি সবসময় আমার কাছেই থাকে। আর আমি যখন গোসল করি তখন সেটা বালিশের নিচে রাখি। ঘুমের সময়েও সেটা আমার বালিশের নিচেই থাকে।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“আপনার বাড়িতে কি বাইরের লোক আসা যাওয়া করে?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“মূলত একেক রকম ব্যক্তির জন্য একেক রকমের ব্যবস্থা আছে। বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে আগত ব্যক্তিদের জন্য বৈঠক ঘর তথা গেস্ট রুম আছে, আবার যারা আমার আমার বাড়িতে কাজ করে, তাদের জন্য একটা ঘরে আসার অনুমতি আছে এবং যারা একেবারেই আমার পরিবারের সদস্য, যেমন:- আমার স্ত্রী ও সন্তানরা, তাদের জন্য আমার পার্সোনাল রুমে আসার অনুমতি আছে। এই রুমেই আমার হীরে রাখি। আজ তদন্তের জন্যই আপনাকে এই রুমে নিয়ে এসেছি। মূলত জমিদারি স্টাইলে তৈরি করা হয়েছে আমাদের এই বাড়ি এবং বর্তমানেও সেই স্টাইলেই চলতেছে আমাদের বাড়ির কার্যক্রম। সম্ভবত এই কারণেও এখনো আমাকে বলা হয় সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“হ্যাঁ, হয়তো এই কারণেই আপনাকে আপনাকে এখনো বলা হয় সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার। তাহলে আপনার বর্ণনা অনুযায়ী বলতে হয় যে, আপনার পরিবারের সদস্যরাই ওই হীরে চুরি করেছে।”

গমলবাবু আঁতকে উঠে বললেন,“কেন বলছেন একথা?”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“আপনার পার্সোনাল রুমে আপনার পরিবারের সদস্য ছাড়া কেউই প্রবেশ করতে পারেনা। তাই স্বাভাবিকভাবেই যে কারোর সন্দেহ হতে পারে যে, আপনার পরিবারের সদস্যরা ওই হীরে চুরি করেছে।”

গমলবাবু কিছুক্ষণ চুপ থেকে বললেন,“আপনার কথায় যুক্তি আছে।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“স্বাভাবিকভাবে এটাই যেকেউ সন্দেহ করবেন। আচ্ছা, আপনি কি পুলিশের সাথে যোগাযোগ করেছেন?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“থানায় আমি অজ্ঞাত ব্যক্তিদের নামে মামলা দায়ের করেছি। পুলিশ নিজের মতো করে তদন্ত করতেছে। আমি আপনার প্রসঙ্গে শোনেছি। তাই পুলিশের তদন্তের পাশাপাশি আমি প্রাইভেটভাবে তদন্ত করার জন্য আপনাকে নিয়োগ করেছি।”

এরপর আরজে চৌধুরী বাড়ির সকলের সাথে কথা বললো। হীরে চুরির দিন কে কেথায় ছিলো? কী করতেছিলো? প্রভৃতি বিষয়সহ আরো বিষয়ে আলোচনা করলো। এভাবেই কেটে গেলো প্রথমদিন।

পরেরদিন আরজে চৌধুরী চলে গেলো বাড়ির ছাদে। ছাদ থেকে সে দেখলো গমলবাবুর বিশাল জমিজমা। বাড়ি থেকে একটু দূরে গমলবাবুর আছে বিশাল একটা ফিশারিজ। গমলবাবু ততক্ষণে ছাদে চলে এসেছেন। গমলবাবু বললেন,“আগে আমরা হরেক রকমের মাছ চাষ করতাম প্রাচীন পদ্ধতিতে। বর্তমানে আমরা বাণিজ্যিকভাবে মাছ চাষ করি। ফিশারিজের প্রতিটা পুকুরে নির্দিষ্টভাবে মাছ চাষ করি। যে পুকুরে পাঙ্গাশ মাছ চাষ করি, সেই পুকুরে অন্য কোনো মাছ চাষ করিনা। আবার আরেক পুকুরে নাইলটিকা, তেলাপিয়া ও কৈ মাছ করি, সেটাতে অন্য কোনো মাছ না। আবার অন্য পুকুরে শিং, মাগুর, বাইম, কাইন মাগুর মাছ চাষ করি। অন্যটাতে চাষ করি রুই, কাতল, মহাশোল প্রভৃতি মাছ। এভাবে চাষ করার সবচেয়ে বেশি সুবিধা হচ্ছে, পুকুর অনুযায়ী ফিড (মাছের খাবার) দেওয়ার সুবিধা। পাঙ্গাশ মাছের ফিড পাঙ্গাশ মাছই খাইলো, নাইলটিকা মাছের ফিড নাইলটিকাই খাইলো, শিং-মাগুরের ফিড শিং-মাগুরই খাইলো। এবং বিক্রির সময় যে মাছ যখন বিক্রি করা দরকার,  তখন অনায়াসে সেই মাছই  ধরা সম্ভব হয়।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“আচ্ছা, তাহলে  আপনারা বাণিজ্যকভাবে মাছ চাষ পুরোদমেই করতেছেন। মাছের ফিড আপনারা কোথা থেকে আনেন? বাংলাদেশে তো অনেক কোম্পানি আছে, যারা মাছের ফিড তৈরি করে।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“আমরা নিজেরাই ফিড তৈরি করি। ভুট্টা, সয়া, শুঁটকি প্রভৃতি মিক্সড করে আমরা নিজেরাই ফিড তৈরি করি। আর ফিডে দেওয়ার জন্য মেডিসিন সাপ্লাই দেন একজন ভেটেরিনারি ডাক্তার। কোন মাছের ফিডে কোন মেডিসিন দিতে হবে, সেই ফর্মুলা তিনিই দিয়ে দেন। এতে আমাদের প্রধান বেনিফিট হচ্ছে, সস্তায় প্রচুর পরিমাণে ভালোমানের ফিড তৈরি করতে পারি।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“আচ্ছা, আপনারা মাছ কোথায় বিক্রি করেন?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“আমরা নির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনো বাজারে অথবা এলাকায় মাছ বিক্রি করিনা। পাইকারি ক্রেতারা এসে যে বেশি দাম দেন, তাঁর////// কাছেই আমরা মাছ বিক্রি করি।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“শোনে আমার ভালোই লাগলো আপনার ফিশারিজের ম্যানেজমেন্ট সিস্টেম। আচ্ছা, আমি এখন তদন্তের কাজ শুরু করবো। আপনি আপনার কাজ করতে পারেন। যদি দরকার হয়, তাহলে আমিই আপনার কাছে যাইবো।”

এরপর গমলবাবু চলে গেলেন নিজের কাজে এবং আরজে চৌধুরী তদন্তের কাজ শুরু করলো।

সারাদিন তদন্তের কাজ করলো আরজে চৌধুরী। রাতের খাবারের পর গমলবাবুকে আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“গমলবাবু, আজ রাতেই হীরে চোর ধরে ফেলবো, আপনি আমার সাথে যাইবেন চোর ধরার জন্য?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“তাই না কি? আমি অবশ্যই যাইবো আপনার সাথে চোর ধরার জন্য।”

এরপর রাত বারোটার সময় আরজে চৌধুরী আর গমলবাবু বের হলেন চোর ধরার জন্য। আরজে চৌধুরীর কাছে আছে ওর ফেভারিট পিস্তল গ্লক নাইনটিন। এবং গমলবাবুর কাছে আছে তাঁর বাবার কেনা দু’নালা বন্দুক। যদিও অনেক দিন যাবৎ এই বন্দুক দ্বারা গুলি করা হয়না, কিন্তু নিয়মিতভাবে যত্ন করা হয়। পূর্ণিমার রাত, চাঁদের আলোয় আলোকিত চারদিক। তা সত্ত্বেও আরজে চৌধুরী সাথে করে নিয়ে এলো ছোট অথচ শক্তিশালী টর্চ লাইট।

আরজে চৌধুরী চলেছে চোর ধরার জন্য আর তাকে ফলো করে হাঁটতেছেন গমলবাবু। আরজে চৌধুরী হাঁটতে হাঁটতে চলে এলো শিং-মাগুরের পুকুরের পাশে। পুকুর পাড়ে আছে কয়েকটা গাছ, আরজে চৌধুরী আর গমলবাবু লুকিয়ে রইলেন সেই গাছের আড়ালে। রাত তখন একটা পেরিয়েছে, এমন সময় দেখা গেলো একজন লোক গামছা দ্বারা মুখ ঢেকে শিং-মাগুরের পুকুরের দিকে এগিয়ে আসতেছে। তাকে দেখে গমলবাবুকে আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“ওই যে চোর আসতেছে, তাকে ধরার জন্য আপনি প্রস্তুত থাকুন।”

চোর এলো এবং শিং-মাগুরের পুকুরের এক কোণায় গেলো। এরপর একটা খুঁটিতে বাঁধা দড়ি ধরে চোরে টানতে লাগলো। চোরে টানতে টানতে একটা নেট তুলে আনলো। এরপর চোরে নেটের ভেতর থেকে একটা কাইন মাগুর বের করে আনলো। চাঁদের আলোয় কাইন মাগুরের মাথাটা ঝলমল করতে লাগলো। মূলত এটা হচ্ছে সেই হীরে, সপ্তগড়ের হীরে। বর্শি বাঁধার সুতো দ্বারা কাইন মাগুরের দুই কাঁটার সাথে হীরেটা বেঁধে রাখা হয়েছে। প্রথমে হীরেটাকে নেটের টুকরোতে ভালো করে বেঁধেছে, এরপর সেটাকে কাইন মাগুরের কাঁটার সাথে বেঁধেছে।

চোরে এবার পকেট থেকে একটা চাকু বের করলো, কাইন মাগুরের কাঁটাতে বাঁধা সুতোটা কেটে ফেললো। এরপর হীরেটা নিজের পকেটে রাখলো, কাইন মাগুরটাকে ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিলো পুকুরের পানিতে।

চোর এবার নিজের প্যান্টে হাত মুছলো, পকেট থেকে ওর মোবাইল ফোনটা বের করলো। একটা নাম্বারে ফোন করলো, অপরপ্রান্ত থেকে একজন বললো,“হ্যালো, কী খবর বলো।”

চোর বললো,“বস, হীরেটা আমার পকেটেই আছে। আপনি কখন আসবেন?”

অপরপ্রান্ত থেকে বলা হলো,“আমি আগামীকালই আসতেছি।”

চোর বললো,“বস, আমাকে পুরাণ ঢাকার চকবাজারের চোর, ডাকাত আর গুন্ডাদের সর্দারি দিতে হবে। আপনি আমাকে কথা দিয়েছেন।”

অপরপ্রান্ত থেকে বলা হলো,“হ্যাঁ, তোমাকে দেয়া কথা আমি রাখবো। তুমি পুরাণ ঢাকায় এসে একমাস সর্দারি করে অনেক টাকা কামাতে পারবে। ওই টাকা হবে এই হীরের মূল্যের চেয়ে অনেক বেশি।”

চোর বললো,“এই কারণেই হীরেটা আপনার জন্য চুরি করেছি।”

হীরেটা নিয়ে চোর চলে যেতে লাগলো এমন সময় আরজে চৌধুরী গর্জে উঠে বললো,“সাবধান! তুমি দৌড় দিলে অথবা হীরেটা ছুঁড়ে ফেলে তোমাকে গুলি করে হত্যা করবো।” আরজে চৌধুরীর হাতে গ্লক নাইনটিন পিস্তল, গমলবাবুর হাতে দু’নালা বন্দুক, চাঁদের আলোয় স্পষ্ট দেখতে পেলো চোরে।

চোর ভয়ে ভয়ে বললো,“স্যার, আমাকে আপনারা হত্যা করবেননা, আমি হীরেটা দিয়ে দিচ্ছি।” একথা বলে হীরেটা চোরে ছুঁড়ে দিলো আরজে চৌধুরীর দিকে। আরজে চৌধুরী সেটা বাম হাতে ধরলো। সেটা দেখে সে বললো,“গমলবাবু, এই নিন আপনার হীরে। এটা আপনার খাঁটি হীরে কি না, চেক করুন।” এরপর হীরেটা আরজে চৌধুরী দিয়ে দিলো গমলবাবুর হাতে। টর্চলাইটের আলোয় হীরেটা গমলবাবু চেক করলেন, বললেন,“হ্যাঁ, এটাই আমার হীরে।”

চোরকে গমলবাবু বললেন,“কে তুই? তোর মুখ থেকে গামছা সরিয়ে দে।”

চোর ওর মুখ থেকে গামছা সরিয়ে ফেললো। তাকে দেখে গমলবাবু হতবাক হয়ে বললো,“আরে, পদন তুই? শেষে আমার হীরেটা তুই চুরি করলি?”

চোর কিছু একটা বলতে চাচ্ছিলো, তাকে থামিয়ে আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“এই স্থানে না, বরং গমলবাবুর বৈঠক ঘরে চলো। সেই স্থানে তুমি কথা বলবে।”

এরপর পদন চলতে লাগলো, ওর পিছনে হাতে বন্দুক আর পিস্তল হাতে যেতে লাগলেন গমলবাবু ও আরজে চৌধুরী।

বৈঠক ঘরে পদন বলতে লাগলো,“আমি ত্রিশ বছর যাবৎ গমলবাবুর বাড়িতে কাজ করি। আমার বয়স যখন দশ বছর, তখন থেকে আমি গমলবাবুর বাড়িতে কাজ করা শুরু করেছি। তখন তো বয়স অল্প ছিলো, তাই হালকা কাজ করতাম। যেমন:- গাছ থেকে পেয়ারা, আম, জাম, লিচু প্রভৃতি ফল নামানো, কাপড় চোপড় রোদে দেওয়া।

এরপর বয়স যত বাড়তে লাগলো, আমার কাজও বাড়তে লাগলো। আমি তখন ভারী কাজ করতে লাগলাম, জমি থেকে ধানের বস্তা মাথায় করে আনা, ধান রোদে শোকানো, ধান মাথায় করে নিয়ে ভাঙানো প্রভৃতি কাজ করতে লাগলাম। কিন্তু বিনিময়ে কী পেয়েছি? সকালে পান্তা ভাত, পোড়া মরিচ আর পচা পেঁয়াজ। দুপুরে এঁটো খাবার আর রাতে দুপুরের ঠান্ডা খাবার। এভাবেই আমার গেলো ত্রিশটি বছর। কিন্তু এবার পেয়েছিলাম ভাগ্য বদলের সুযোগ। সেটাও হলোনা।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“আমার হীরে চুরি করলে তোর ভাগ্য বদল হবে, এটা তোকে কে বুঝিয়েছে?”

পদন বললো,“এক সপ্তাহ আগে আমি গিয়েছিলাম সপ্তগড় বাজারে। একটা চায়ের দোকানে একজন অচেনা লোকের সাথে আমার পরিচয় হয়। সেই লোক আমার প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চায়। তখন আমি আমার প্রসঙ্গে তাকে বলেছিলাম। তখন লোকটা বললো,‘তুমি তো তোমার জীবনটা শেষ করে দিয়েছো। তুমি যদি ঢাকা শহরে রিকশা চালাতে, তাহলে অনেক টাকা ইনকাম করে ফেলতে। এবং সেই টাকার মাধ্যমে তুমি তোমার গ্ৰামে একটা বিল্ডিং করতে পারতে। অথচ সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার নামধারী ওই লোকটার বাড়িতে কাজ করে তোমার জীবনটা বরবাদ করে দিয়েছো। তোমার বয়স চল্লিশ বছর হয়ে গিয়েছে, জীবনে পরিশ্রম করে টাকা উপার্জন করার বয়স মূলত চল্লিশ বছর পর্যন্তই। এই বয়সটাই তুমি শেষ করে দিয়েছো সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার নামধারী ওই লোকটার বাড়িতে কাজ করে। তবে তোমাকে আমি একটা সুযোগ দিতে পারি হঠাৎ করে বিরাট ধনী হওয়ার।’ এই কথাগুলো শোনে আমার মনে যেনো ঝড় বয়ে গেলো। লোকটা তো সত্য কথাই বলেছে। জীবনের ত্রিশটা বছর আমি গমলবাবুর বাড়িতে কাজ করেছি, অথচ ঠিকমতো বাড়ি তৈরি করতে পারিনি। তেমন টাকাও সঞ্চয় করতে পারিনি। তাই লোকটার কথায় আমি রাজি হলাম এবং বললাম,‘হ্যাঁ, আমি এখন হঠাৎ করে বিরাট ধনী লোক হতে চাই। আপনি বলুন, আমাকে কী করতে হবে?’ লোকটা তখন আমাকে ফিসফিস করে বললো,‘সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার গমলবাবুর পরিবারের ঐতিহ্য হীরেটা চুরি করে আমাকে দিতে হবে।'”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“সেদিন সপ্তগড় বাজারে তুমি কেনো গিয়েছিলে? ওই চায়ের দোকানে তুমি নিজে চা খাওয়ার (পান করার) জন্য গিয়েছিলে না কি অন্যকেউ তোমাকে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলো?”

পদন বললো,“ওইদিন আমি নিজে যাইনি সপ্তগড় বাজারে। বরং আমাকে আমার বন্ধু পানজু ফোন করে নিয়েছিলো। এবং পানজুই আমাকে চায়ের ওই দোকানে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলো।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“গমলবাবু, আপনি মামলা করবেন পানজুর বিরুদ্ধে হীরে চুরির সাথে জড়িত থাকার কারণে।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“অবশ্যই আমি মামলা করবো পানজুর বিরুদ্ধে। প্রয়োজনে পানজুকে আমরা ধরবো এবং থানায় সোপর্দ করবো।”

পদন বলতে লাগলো,“ততক্ষণে আমি চা খেয়ে পান খাইতে লাগলাম (চা পান করে পান খেতে লাগলাম)। লোকটাকে বললাম,‘আপনি আমাকে কত টাকা দেবেন?’ লোকটা বললো,‘আমার নাম ধতন ব্যাপারী। ছোটবেলা বরিশাল থেকে পুরাণ ঢাকায় এসেছি। মানুষের পকেট থেকে টাকা চুরি করেছি, চুরি, ডাকাতি, ছিনতাই আর চাঁদাবাজি করে বড়লোক হয়েছি। আমি তোমাকে হীরে চুরির বিনিময়ে নগদ টাকা দেবোনা, বরং টাকার খনিতে তোমাকে আমি নামিয়ে দেবো, তখন তুমি যত পারো ততো টাকা লুটে নিতে পারবে।’ একথা শোনে আমি লোভ সামলাতে পারলামনা। আমি লোভীর মতো বললাম,‘সেটা কীভাবে?’ ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,‘তুমি যদি হীরেটা চুরি করে দাও, তাহলে আমি তোমাকে পুরাণ ঢাকার চোর ডাকাতের সর্দার বানিয়ে দেবো‌। তখন তুমি নিজেও চুরি, ডাকাতি ও চাঁদাবাজি করতে পারবে। এবং চকবাজারের সকল চোর, ডাকাত ও চাঁদাবাজদের কাছ থেকে অনেক টাকা পার্সেন্টেজ পাবে। এরকম পজিশনের জন্য মানুষ কোটি কোটি টাকা খরচ করার জন্য তৈরি হয়ে আছে, কিন্তু আমরা তাদেরকে কোনো সুযোগ দিইনা। অথচ তুমি মাত্র একটা হীরে চুরি করে আমাকে এনে দেবে, এর বিনিময়ে তোমাকে আমি ওই পজিশন দিয়ে দেবো।’ এরপরই আমি প্ল্যান করি ওই হীরে চুরি করার। গমলবাবুর ছেলের পোষাক দেওয়া হয়েছিলো আমাকে লন্ড্রিতে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য। তখন আমি গমলবাবুর ছেলের পোষাক পরিধান করে হীরেটা চুরি করে নিয়ে আসি। পোষাক দেখে সকলেই মনে করেছিলো আমিই গমলবাবুর ছেলে। এরপর হীরেটা চুরি করে পোশাকগুলো লন্ড্রিতে দিয়ে আসি।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“*আচ্ছা, হীরেটা ওইভাবে কাইন মাগুরের কাঁটার সাথে বেঁধে রাখলি কেন?”

পদন বললো,“কাইন মাগুর মাছ খাবারের সময় উপরে উঠে আসে এবং ভাসমান ফিড খেয়ে আবার চলে যায় একেবারে পানির নিচে মাটির সাথে। হীরে লুকানোর জন্য এটাই ছিলো পারফেক্ট উপায়।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“তুই রাতে হীরেটা সরাতে এলি কেন?”

পদন বললো,“দিনের বেলা দেখেছি আরজে চৌধুরীকে খুঁটির সাথে বাঁধা দড়ি ধরে টানাটানি করতে। তাই আজ রাতেই হীরেটা সরানোর জন্য এসেছি।”

গমলবাবু হাসতে হাসতে বললেন,“আপনি কীভাবে বুঝলেন, হীরেটা এই স্থানেই আছে?”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“দিনের বেলা আমি দেখেছিলাম, পদন আলাদা করে ওই নেটের ভেতরে ফিড দিচ্ছে। তাই পদন চলে আসার পর আমি ওই নেটের দড়িতে ধরে টানাটানি করি। তখনো কাইন মাগুর মাছটা ফিড খেয়ে শেষ করেনি। তাই কাইন মাগুরের কাঁটায় আটকানো হীরেটা আমি দেখতে পেরেছিলাম। এবং ইচ্ছা করেই দড়িতে ধরে টানাটানি করেছিলাম।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“আপনি তো চাইলে তখনই হীরেটা উদ্ধার করতে পারতেন। তাহলে রাতে কেন আমাকে নিয়ে গাছের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে রইলেন।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“হ্যাঁ, আমি তখনই হীরেটা উদ্ধার করতে পারতাম। কিন্তু চোরকে হাতেনাতে ধরার জন্যই রাতে আপনাকে নিয়ে গিয়েছি। ইচ্ছা করে আমি ওই দড়িতে ধরে টানাটানি করেছিলাম, যাতে পদন সেটা দেখে হীরে নিতে আসে। এবং সারাদিন জানালার মাধ্যমে সেদিকে তাকিয়ে ছিলাম। যখনই পদন আসবে হীরেটা সরাতে, তখনই তাকে ধরবো। কিন্তু সারাদিনেও যখন এলোনা, তখন বললাম রাতেই আসবে পদন হীরেটা সরানোর জন্য। তাই আপনাকে আমি সাথে নিয়ে গাছের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে ছিলাম।”

পদনকে আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“পানজুকে তুমি ফোন করে বলো, হীরেটা এসে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য।” এরপর আরজে চৌধুরী বলে দিলো কী কথা বলতে হবে।

আরজে চৌধুরীর কথামতো পানজুকে পদন ফোন করে বললো,“পানজুদা, তুমি এখন চলে আসো গমলবাবুর ফিশারিজের অফিস ঘরের পিছনে। আমি সেই স্থানেই হীরেসহ অপেক্ষা করবো, তুমি এসে নিয়ে যাও।”

পদনের কথা শেষ হলে পানজু ফোনের লাইন কেটে দিলো। এরপর আরজে চৌধুরীর কথামতো গমলবাবু নিয়ে নিলেন পদনের মোবাইল ফোন এবং রেখে দিলেন বৈঠক ঘরের টেবিলের ড্রয়ারে তালা লক করে। এরপর পদনকে বৈঠক ঘরের ভেতরে রেখে  দরজার বাইরের তলা লক করলেন গমলবাবু। এরপর আরজে চৌধুরীর সাথে তিনি অফিস ঘরের পিছনে এসে লুকিয়ে রইলেন। কিছুক্ষণ পরেই এলো পানজু। সে এসে পদনকে না পেয়ে একা একাই বললো,“কীরে পদন,তুই কোথায়? আমি তো হীরে নেওয়ার জন্য চলে এসেছি।”

একথা বলা শেষ হতে না হতেই আরজে চৌধুরী আর গমলবাবু আড়াল থেকে বের হয়ে এলেন। পানজুকে গমলবাবু বললেন,“তুই হীরে নিতে এসেছিস? এই নে হীরের বদলে কিলঘুষি।” একথা শেষ হতেই আরজে চৌধুরী ও গমলবাবু এলোপাথাড়ি কিলঘুষি মারতে লাগলেন পানজুকে। কিলঘুষিতে পানজু কেঁদে কেঁদে বললো,“স্যার, স্যার, আমার কোনো দোষ নাই। সকল দোষ পুরাণ ঢাকার চোরের সর্দার ধতন ব্যাপারীর।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“তাহলে এখন তুই ফোন করে ধতন ব্যাপারীকে বল্, আগামীকাল যাতে সে তাড়াতাড়ি সপ্তগড়ে চলে আসে।”

আরজে চৌধুরী বলে দিলো কী কী বলতে হবে।

পানজু তখন ফোন করলো ধতন ব্যাপারীকে,“ধতন ভাই, হীরেটা যত তাড়াতাড়ি সম্ভব নিতে আসেন। হীরেটা আমাদের কাছে রাখতে ভয় করতেছে।”

ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,“তোমরা কোনো টেনশন করিওনা। আমি ভোরেই গাড়ি নিয়ে রওয়ানা হবো।” একথা বলে ধতন ব্যাপারী ফোনের লাইন কেটে দিলো।

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“ধতন ব্যাপারীর সাথে তোমার যোগাযোগ হলো কীভাবে?”

পানজু বললো,“ধতন ব্যাপারীকে আমি চিনতামনা। হঠাৎ করে ধতন ব্যাপারীর সাথে আমার দেখা হয় সপ্তগড় বাজারে। সে আমার সাথে অনেক কথাবার্তা বলে। অবশেষে সে আমাকে বললো,‘গমলবাবুর বাড়িতে কাজ করে, এমন কোনো ব্যক্তিকে আমার কাছে ডেকে আনতে পারবে?’ তখন আমি পদনকে ডেকে আনি। এরপর আমরা তিনজনে মিলে হীরে চুরির ষড়যন্ত্র করি।”

এরপর পানজুকেও পদনের সাথে আটকে রাখা হলো এবং পানজুর ফোনটাও পদনের ফোনের সাথে রেখে দিলেন গমলবাবু।

সেদিন দুপুরেই ধতন ব্যাপারী চলে এলো সপ্তগড় বাজারে। সপ্তগড় বাজারে এসে ধতন ব্যাপারী ফোন করলো পানজুকে। রিং বাজতে থাকা ফোনটা গমলবাবু ড্রয়ার থেকে বের করে দিলেন পানজুকে। সে ফোন রিসিভ করলো। অপরপ্রান্ত থেকে ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,“আমি তো এখন সপ্তগড় বাজারে চলে এসেছি। সেই চায়ের দোকানে আমি আছি, তোমরা তাড়াতাড়ি হীরেটা নিয়ে চলে আসো।”

এরপর পানজুর মোবাইল ফোনটা আবার ড্রয়ারে রেখে দিলেন গমলবাবু। পানজু আর পদনকে আটকে রেখে গমলবাবু বের হলেন বাড়ি থেকে। গমলবাবুর মোটরসাইকেলে উঠলেন তাঁরা, সামনে আরজে চৌধুরী আর পিছনে গমলবাবু। আরজে চৌধুরী গতকাল গিয়েছিলো সপ্তগড় বাজারে। তাই আরজে চৌধুরীর চেনা আছে সপ্তগড়ের রাস্তা। অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই আরজে চৌধুরী ও গমলবাবু পৌঁছে গেলেন সপ্তগড় বাজারে। সেই চায়ের দোকানে ধতনকে পেয়েই আরজে চৌধুরী আর গমলবাবু এলোপাথাড়ি প্রচন্ড কিলঘুষি মারতে লাগলেন। সেটা দেখে বাজারের লোকজন দৌড়ে এসে জড়ো হলো। গমলবাবুকে একজন বললেন,“জমিদারবাবু, অবশেষে আপনিও মানুষ পেটাতে শুরু করেছেন?”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“এই ব্যক্তিই আমার হীরে চুরি করিয়েছে। এই ব্যক্তিই আসল চোর।” এরপর ধতন ব্যাপারীকে নিয়ে বৈঠক ঘরে চলে এলেন গমলবাবু এবং আরজে চৌধুরী।

ধতন ব্যাপারীকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করে জানা গেলো:-

দুই মাস আগে ইউটিউবে গমলবাবুর হীরে প্রসঙ্গে একটা প্রামাণ্যচিত্র প্রকাশিত হয়। সেটা দেখেন ভারতের মুম্বাইয়ের এক বড় ব্যবসায়ী। প্রামাণ্যচিত্রে ওই হীরেটা প্রদর্শন করা হয়। সেটা দেখে তিনি দাবি করেন যে, ব্রিটিশ আমলে তাঁর////// পিতামহ ছিলেন তামিলনাডুর জমিদার। তখন তিনি একটা হীরে কিনেছিলেন হায়দ্রাবাদের এক হীরে ব্যবসায়ীর কাছ থেকে। হীরেটা ক্রয় করে তিনি তামিলনাডুতে ফিরে আসেন। এবং নিজের জমিদারি পরিচালনা করতে থাকেন। তিনি ওই হীরের বর্ণনা একজন কবির দ্বারা লিখিয়ে রাখেন একটা হরিণের প্রসেসিং করা চামড়ার মধ্যে। হীরের বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলো বর্ণনা করেন একজন জহুরি (রত্ন বিশেষজ্ঞ) এবং ওই কবি সেটা হরিণের চামড়ার মধ্যে লিখে রাখেন। একদিন ওই হীরেটা চুরি হয়ে যায়, কিন্তু ওই হরিণের চামড়াটা থাকে যথাস্থানেই। ইউটিউবে বর্ণিত হীরের বৈশিষ্ট্য, আকার ও আকৃতির সাথে হরিণের চামড়ার বর্ণনা হুবহু মিলে যায়। তাছাড়া প্রামাণ্যচিত্রে বলা হয় যে, ওই হীরে গমলবাবুর প্রপিতামহ ভারতের কাশীতে এক ব্যক্তির কাছ থেকে ক্রয় করেছিলেন। এই কথা শোনে মুম্বাইয়ের ওই ব্যবসায়ীর বদ্ধমূল ধারণা হয় যে, ওই চোর হীরেটা চুরি করে গমলবাবুর প্রপিতামহের কাছে বিক্রি করেছিলো। তাই মুম্বাইয়ের ওই ব্যবসায়ী প্ল্যান করেন যে, তিনিও ওই হীরে চূরি করার ব্যবস্থা করবেন। তাই তিনি ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে যোগাযোগ করেন পুরাণ ঢাকার চোরের সর্দার ধতন ব্যাপারীর সাথে‌। এরপর ধতন ব্যাপারী সপ্তগড়ে এসেছে এবং গমলবাবুর কাজের লোক পদনের দ্বারা হীরেটা চুরি করিয়েছে।

আরজে চৌধুরী বললো,“ধতন ব্যাপারী, পুরাণ ঢাকায় তুমি কী করো?”

ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,“পুরাণ ঢাকায় আমি অর্গানাইজড ক্রাইমের সাথে জড়িত। মাঠ পর্যায়ে আমাদের অনেক কর্মী আছে, যারা বিভিন্ন ক্রাইম করে, তাদেরকে প্রটেকশন দেন আরো বড় অপরাধীরা। এবং পুরো চক্রটাই নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেন একজন বস।আবার কোনো কোনো ক্ষেত্রে আমি নিজেও পরিচালনা করি অর্গানাইজড ক্রাইম।”

আরজে চৌধুরী ধমকে বললো,“আরে ব্যাটা (Hey stupid), সহজ কথায় বল্ তুই পুরাণ ঢাকায় কী কী ক্রাইম করিস? উচ্চশিক্ষিত লোকের মতো কথা বলার দরকার নাই। তুই অশিক্ষিত, তুই চোর, তোর মতো করে তুই কথা বল।”

ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,“মূলত পুরাণ ঢাকায় আমরা চুরি ডাকাতি করি। বিশেষ করে লোহা জাতীয় দ্রব্য আমরা চুরি করি। বুড়িগঙ্গা নদীতে আগত স্টিমার ও লাইটার জাহাজ থেকে আমরা চুরি করি লোহা_লক্কর এবং বিভিন্ন যন্ত্রপাতি, সেগুলো আরো বড় চোরের কাছে বিক্রি করি। আমরা অলিতে গলিতে ঢুকে পথচারীদের কাছ থেকে টাকা, হাতঘড়ি ও মোবাইল ছিনতাই করি। এবং মাসের শেষে আমাদের বসকে আমরা খুশি করার জন্য টাকা দিই।”

গমলবাবু বললেন,“তুই তো চোর, প্রাইভেট কার (car) পেলি কোথায়?”

ধতন ব্যাপারী বললো,“এই প্রাইভেট কারটাও (car) আমি চুরি করেছি পুরাণ ঢাকা থেকে। এরপর ভেজাল লাইসেন্সের দ্বারা আমি চালাচ্ছি গাড়ি।”

এরপর পুলিশ এলো। ধতন ব্যাপারী, পানজু আর পদনকে পুলিশে সোপর্দ করে দিলেন সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার গমলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরী।

সেদিনই ইউটিউবে সংবাদ প্রচারিত হলো:-  সপ্তগড়ের জমিদার গমলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরীর হারিয়ে যাওয়া হীরে পাওয়া গিয়েছে। পুরাণ ঢাকার চোরের সর্দার ধতন ব্যাপারী এবং সপ্তগড়ের চোর পানজু ও গমলবাবুর বাড়ির চোর মিলে এই চুরি করেছে। তাদেরকে থানায় সোপর্দ করে দিয়েছেন গমলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরী।

কিন্তু আরজে চৌধুরীর কথামতো মুম্বাইয়ের ওই ব্যবসায়ীর নাম গোপন রেখেছেন গমলবাবু।
