Emperor Humayun fell into a precarious life. He was almost destitute after losing his empire. But despite this, he regained it.

At that moment, the girl, devastated, somehow got out of bed and sat at Emperor Akbar's feet.

He naturally told the girl, "I will never forget you. Even if I go to Afghanistan, I will miss you very much. Well, how did you know that I would go to Afghanistan?"

The girl said, "I learned that from Aunt Jamina, Barud Uncle's wife."

The girl served Emperor Akbar for a while longer. Then Emperor Akbar bid the girl farewell by gifting her a pearl necklace.

Barud Khan said, "If this continues, Akbar will come to know about our conspiracy. Then he will not hesitate to kill us. Therefore, Akbar must kill us before he finds out about our conspiracy."

Kaman Khan said, "Is it so easy to kill Akbar? He has strengthened the security of his palace."

Bairam Khan was shocked and said, "Shit, how could you be like this? Why would we kill our emperor? We will never do that."

Barud Khan said, "We will kill Akbar. We have to do it."

Bairam Khan, greedy for power, agreed. He said, "Well, I agree with you. But Akbar must be killed with great skill. Even though he is a boy at his age, he is like a very experienced man in intellect."

সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের ইন্তেকাল।

সম্রাট হুমায়ুন অনিশ্চিত জীবনের মধ্যে পতিত হয়েছিলেন। সাম্রাজ্য হারিয়ে তিনি হয়েছিলেন প্রায় নিঃস্ব। কিন্তু তা সত্ত্বেও তিনি সাম্রাজ্য আবার ফিরে পেয়েছিলেন।

পাঠান সম্রাট শের শাহর বিরুদ্ধে পরাজিত হয়ে সম্রাট হুমায়ুন প্রায় নিঃস্ব অবস্থায় ছিলেন।

পরবর্তীতে পারস্য সম্রাটের সহযোগিতায় সম্রাট হুমায়ুন আবার সাম্রাজ্য ফিরে পেয়েছিলেন।

অবশ্য সম্রাট হুমায়ুন সাম্রাজ্য ফিরে পাওয়ার আগে শের শাহ দুর্ঘটনায় নিহত হয়েছিলেন।

এই দুর্ঘটনার কারণেও সম্রাট হুমায়ুন কর্তৃক সাম্রাজ্য পুনরুদ্ধার আরো সহজ হয়েছিলো।

আর ছিলেন বৈরাম খাঁর মতো দক্ষ সেনাপতি।

শের শাহর মৃত্যুর পর সম্রাট হুমায়ুন আবার নিজের সাম্রাজ্য ফিরি পান। নিজের সাম্রাজ্য ফিরে পাওয়ার পর সম্রাট হুমায়ুন ইন্তেকাল করেন।

দুই.

আকবারের অভিভাবক।

তেরো বছরের বালক আকবার। বাবা হুমায়ুনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। এখন সে হতে চলেছে বিশাল সাম্রাজ্যের নতুন সম্রাট।

আকবারের পিতামহ বাবর যখন বালক, তখন বাবরের বাবাও মারা গিয়েছিলেন।

আজ আকবারও বাল্য বয়সে নতুন সম্রাট হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করছে।

কিন্তু তা সত্ত্বেও আকবারের একজন অভিভাবক দরকার।

তাই সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের বিশ্বস্ত সঙ্গী বৈরাম খাঁকে করা হলো আকবারের অভিভাবক।

তিন.

সম্রাট আকবার।

ইতিহাসের কিছু ঘটনা ঘুরেফিরে আবার ঘটতেও পারে অথবা না ঘটতে পারে।

কিন্তু অতীতের একটা ঘটনার সাথে পরবর্তী সময়ের আরো ঘটনার মিল থাকতে পারে।

বাল্য বয়সে সম্রাট আলেকজান্ডার কর্তৃক ক্ষমতা গ্ৰহণ।

বাল্য বয়সে চেঙ্গিস হয়েছিলেন নিজের সম্প্রদায়ের সর্দার_খাঁ।

তেমনি আজ বালক আকবারও হলেন মোগল সাম্রাজ্যের নতুন সম্রাট।

চার.

সংযত বালক সম্রাট।

সম্রাট আকবার সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করেই কোন রাজ্যের কী অবস্থা,সে ব্যাপারে খোঁজখবর নিতে লাগলেন।

তিনি এমনভাবে খোঁজখবর নিতে লাগলেন,যেন তিনি আরো আগে থেকেই সাম্রাজ্য পরিচালনা করছেন।

সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করেই বৈরাম খাঁকে সম্রাট আকবার বললেন,“আমার পিতার সাম্রাজ্য পরিচালনার জন্য আমিই যথেষ্ট।সাম্রাজ্যের কোথায় কী আছে, আমাকে আপনি শুধু সেটার হিসাব প্রদান করুন।”

পরিণত মানুষের মতো একরকম কথাবার্তার আশা বৈরাম খাঁ করেন নি।তিনি মনে করেছিলেন,সম্রাট আকবার সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করে শিশুদের মতো খেলাধুলা করবেন আর এর কোল থেকে ওর কোলে উঠবেন। অবশেষে হৈ হুল্লোড় করে নিজের ঘরে চলে যাবেন।

কিন্তু পরিণত মানুষের মতো আচরণ দেখে বৈরাম খাঁ সতর্ক হয়ে উঠলেন। শিশু হোক অথবা বালক হোক,সম্রাট আকবারের কথা মতো কাজ করতেই হবে।

তা না হলে,এই ভরা মজলিসে বৈরাম খাঁকে সম্রাট আকবার কী করেন,সেটা আঁচ করা কঠিন।

তাই সম্রাট আকবারের কথা মতো বৈরাম খাঁ সাম্রাজ্যের হিসাব প্রদান করতে লাগলেন।

পাঁচ.

ষড়যন্ত্রের সূচনা।

ওদিকে কিছু মানুষ মনে করেছিলো,বালক আকবার সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করেই বালখিল্যতা শুরু করবেন। কিন্তু আকবার সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করে কোন রকম বালখিল্যতা তো দূরের কথা ,বরং সংযত আচরণ শুরু করলেন।

এটা দেখে যে ক’জন অসন্তুষ্ট হয়েছে, তাদের মধ্যে বারুদ খাঁ (কাল্পনিক চরিত্র) অন্যতম।

সম্রাট আকবারের সংযত আচরণ দেখে সে ছটফট করছিলো।ওর সহ্য হচ্ছিলো না সম্রাট আকবারের সংযত আচরণ।

তাই কামান খাঁকে (কাল্পনিক চরিত্র) সে বলল,“আকবার সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করেই পরিণত বয়সের সম্রাটদের মতো আচরণ শুরু করেছে।এভাবে চলতে থাকলে আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য সফল হবে না।আমরা তো গোপনে প্রচার করেছিলাম যে,আকবারকে সিংহাসনে বসিয়ে তামাশা করব।আর মূল ক্ষমতা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করব আমরাই। এ ব্যাপারটা মোটামুটি আমাদের মাধ্যমে সকলেরই জানা হয়েছিলো। এর মধ্যে বিপরীত ঘটনা শুরু হয়ে গেলো।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য সফল করতে হলে আরো কিছু কাজ করতে হবে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“কী কাজের কথা তুমি বলছো?”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য সফল করতে হলে বৈরাম খাঁকে আমাদের দলে যুক্ত করতে হবে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আমাদের তো একটাই দল।আমরা মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের রক্ষক।আর কোন দলের কথা বলছো?”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আমরা মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের রক্ষক_এটা ঠিক। কিন্তু আমরা যারা পারস্য থেকে এসে মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের রক্ষক হয়েছি,তাদের রয়েছে আলাদা একটা দল।আমি সেই দলের কথাই বলছি।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“এ দিক দিয়ে বৈরাম খাঁ তো আমাদের দলেরই অন্তর্ভুক্ত।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“হ্যাঁ,বৈরাম খাঁ আমাদের দলের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। কিন্তু পুরোপুরি আমাদের দলের অন্তর্ভুক্ত না। কেননা,মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের অনুগত হতে হতে বৈরাম খাঁ এখন নিজের স্বার্থের ব্যাপারে কোন চিন্তা করতে পারে না। কিন্তু আমরা মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের সেবক হওয়া সত্ত্বেও নিজেদের স্বার্থের ব্যাপারে সচেতন।সম্রাট আকবার যদি এভাবে সংযতভাবে চলতে থাকেন,তাহলে আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য সফল হবে না।তাই সম্রাট আকবারকে বেসামাল করতে হলে অবশ্যই বৈরাম খাঁকে আমাদের দলে যুক্ত করতে হবে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“কীভাবে সফল করবে?তুমি কি দেখছো না যে, সিংহাসনে সম্রাট আকবার আরোহণ করতে না করতেই বৈরাম খাঁ কীভাবে চামচামি শুরু করে দিয়েছে।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“এটাই তো হচ্ছে বড় সমস্যা।বৈরাম খাঁ মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের এতো অনুগত হয়েছে যে,এখন সে বিন্দুমাত্র বিরোধিতা করার চিন্তা করতে পারে না। কিন্তু অত্যন্ত কৌশলে বৈরাম খাকে সম্রাট আকবারের বিরুদ্ধে উস্কে দিতে হবে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“এটাই করতে হবে।তা না হলে অবশেষে বৈরাম খাঁ_ই আমাদের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াবে।”

ছয়.

বৈরাম খাঁকে বিভ্রান্ত করা।

অনেক চেষ্টার পর বৈরাম খাঁকে বারুদ খাঁ ও কামান খাঁ একাকী পেল।

ওদেরকে বৈরাম খাঁ জিজ্ঞেস করলেন,“কী ব্যাপার,আমার সাথে তোমরা কথা বলার জন্য এভাবে ব্যাকুল হলে কেন?”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আমাদের সকল আশা আকাঙ্ক্ষা নিরাশায় পরিণত হওয়ার পথে।তবে এখনো আশা পূরণের অনেক সম্ভাবনা আছে।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“আমাদের কোন আশা পূরণের কথা বলছো? অভিভাবক হিসেবে আমার তো আশা ছিলো আকবারকে সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করানো।আর এটা ছিলো আমার জন্য একটা বিরাট ব্যাপার। আমার সেই আশা পূরণ হয়েছে আকবারকে সিংহাসনে বসিয়ে সম্রাট বানানোর মাধ্যমে।এবং এটা ছিলো সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের প্রতি আমার ওয়াদা।আমি আমার ওয়াদা পূরণ করতে পেরেছি। তাছাড়া মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রতি সারা জীবন অনুগত থাকার শপথ করেই আমি পারস্য থেকে হিন্দুস্তানে এসেছি।আমি এখনো মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রধান সেনাপতি।তাই নতুন করে আমার কোন আশা আকাঙ্ক্ষা নাই।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“সমস্যা তো এটাই।আপনি নিজে চাইলেই সম্রাট হতে পারেন। কিন্তু মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রতি আনুগত্য আপনাকে মানসিকভাবে পঙ্গু করে রেখেছে।মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের সম্রাটরা কি আল্লাহর প্রেরিত দূত যে, তাদেরকে সরিয়ে নিজেরা সম্রাট হওয়া অসম্ভব?”

একথা শোনে প্রায় চমকে উঠে বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“তুমি কী বলতে চাচ্ছো?”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আমরা পারস্য থেকে নিজেদের জন্মভূমি ত্যাগ করে হিন্দুস্তানে এসেছি।রাজ্যহারা হুমায়ুনকে আবার আমরা সিংহাসনে বসিয়েছি।বিনিময়ে আমরা কী পেয়েছি?কিছু বেতন ভাতা ছাড়া কিছুই না।অথচ ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্রে আছে উজবেকিস্তানের কিছু লোক।অথচ চাইলে সহজেই আমরা আকবারকে সরিয়ে এই হিন্দুস্তানের একচ্ছত্র শাসক হতে পারি।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“তোমাদের কি মাথা খারাপ হয়েছে? নিজেদের সম্রাটকে সরিয়ে ক্ষমতা দখল করার ষড়যন্ত্র করছো?”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“এটা তো অন্যায় কিছু না। ইব্রাহিম লোদিকে পরাজিত করে আকবারের দাদা বাবর ক্ষমতা দখল করেছিলেন,তেমনি আমরাও আকবারকে সরিয়ে ক্ষমতা দখল করে নেব।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“তোমার কথায় যুক্তি আছে। তবে এটা তোমাদের একেবারেই আত্মঘাতী সিদ্ধান্ত।সম্রাট আকবার যদি জানতে পারেন,তাহলে তোমাদের পরিণতি হবে একেবারেই ভয়াবহ।এমনকি তোমাদেরকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড পর্যন্ত দিতে পারেন।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“তাহলে আমরা একটু কৌশল অবলম্বন করতে পারি। আকবারকে ক্ষমতা থেকে একেবারে সরিয়ে না দিয়ে অন্যভাবে ক্ষমতায় রাখতে পারি।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“সেটা কীভাবে?”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আকবারকে আমরা সম্রাট হিসেবে সিংহাসনে বসিয়ে রাখব। কিন্তু সাম্রাজ্যের ক্ষমতা আমরা নিয়ন্ত্রন করব।আকবারকে আমরা পুতুলের মতো পরিচালনা করব।আর লোকজন যাতে বুঝতে পারে, আকবার যদিও সম্রাট, কিন্তু তাকে আমরাই পরিচালনা করছি।ফলে সাম্রাজ্যের অন্য রাজারা আকবারকে রেখে আমাদের আনুগত্য করবে।”

এ সকল কথায় বৈরাম খাঁ প্রভাবিত হতে শুরু করলেন।তিনি প্রায় বিভ্রান্ত হয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন,“এটা তো তোমাদের মনের অভিলাস মাত্র।এটা বাস্তবায়ন করা কি এতোই সহজ?তোমরা কি দেখনি যে,প্রথম দিনেই আকবার কীরকম জ্ঞান বুদ্ধির পরিচয় দিয়েছে।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“এটা তেমন কোন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় না। ছোটবেলা এরকম পাকনামী কমবেশি সকল পোলাপানই করে।প্রথম প্রথম বাপ দাদার উত্তরাধিকার সূত্রে প্রাপ্ত সিংহাসন পেয়ে একটু একটু পাকনামী করছে। কিছুদিন গেলেই আবার ছেলে মানুষী শুরু করবে। বাজপাখি,ঘোড়া প্রভৃতি নিয়ে খেলা শুরু করবে। তাছাড়া আকবারকে আমরা সাম্রাজ্যের সবচেয়ে সুন্দর মেয়েদেরকে এনে দেব।তাতে ওর মন সাম্রাজ্য পরিচালনার চেয়ে মেয়েদেরকে নিয়ে মেতে থাকবে।”

এরকম কথায় বৈরাম খাঁ আরো বিভ্রান্ত হতে শুরু করলেন।তিনি দ্বিধাদ্বন্দ্বে ভোগে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন,“সবই তোমরা করবে,তাহলে আমি কী করব?”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আপনি করবেন সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজটা।আপনি তো আকবারের অভিভাবক। আপনার কাজ হবে ভরা দরবারে আপনার অভিভাবক সুলভ ক্ষমতা জাহির করা।তাতে অন্যান্য রাজ্যের রাজারা আপনার প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হবে আর আকবারকে তাচ্ছিল্য করবে। এভাবে ক্রমে ক্রমে আপনি হয়ে উঠবেন মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের মূল ক্ষমতার অধিকারী আর আমরা হব আপনার প্রধান সহচর।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“এরপর একদিন আকবারকে লাথি মেরে পাঠিয়ে দেব আফগানিস্তানে। সেখানে সে বাকিটা জীবন সাধারনভাবে কাটাবে।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললে,“আমি অনুগত ছিলাম সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের প্রতি। এখন আমি সম্রাট আকবারের প্রতি অষনুগত থাকব। সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের পরিবারের প্রতি অনুগত থাকার প্রতিজ্ঞা করেই আমি পারস্য থেকে ভারতে এসেছি। আমি পারব না আমার প্রতিজ্ঞা ত্যাগ করতে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“এটা আপনার মনের ভুল।আপনি তখনের পরিস্থিতির কারণে একটা প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিলেন, আর এখনের পরিস্থিতিতে প্রতিজ্ঞা ভঙ্গ করবেন। ক্ষমতার কাছে এসকল প্রতিজ্ঞার কোন গুরুত্ব নাই। আপনি এখন চাইলেই এই ভারতের সম্রাট হতে পারবেন।শুধুমাত্র আকবারকে সরিয়ে দিলেই হবে। অযথাই পাগলের মতো অতীতের কোন প্রতিজ্ঞার উপর নিজেকে স্থির করে রাখবেন না।”

একথা শোনে বৈরাম খাঁ মর্মাহত হয়ে ভাবলেন,“কী, এতো বড় স্পর্ধা ? আমি আমার প্রতিজ্ঞার উপর স্থির থেকেছি, আর এটাকে বারুদ খাঁ বলতেছে, পাগলের মতো। বারুদ খাঁ তো আমার অন্তরে আঘাত করেছে।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“যারা ক্ষমতা পরিচালনার যোগ্য, তাদের কাছে ওই সকল প্রতিজ্ঞার কোন গুরুত্ব নাই। কিন্তু যারা পাগল প্রকৃতির মানুষ, ওরাই অতীতের প্রতিজ্ঞা নিয়ে বসে থাকে‌।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আপনি সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের জন্য এতো শ্রম দিলেন, বিনিময়ে তিনি আপনাকে কী দিয়েছেন? আপনি তো সেই গোলামই রয়ে গেলেন। হ্যাঁ, এটা সত্য যে, আপনি পারস্য থেকে ভারতে এসেছেন‌। কিন্তু আকবারের পিতামহ বাবরও তো উজবেকিস্তান থেকে এসেছেন এই ভারতে।এদিক দিয়ে আপনি আর বাবর, দুজনই ভিনদেশি মানুষ। বাবর যদি উজবেকিস্তান থেকে এসে ভারতের সম্রাট হতে পারেন, তাহলে আপনি পারস্য থেকে এসে ভারতের সম্রাট হতে পারবেন না কেন?”

ক্ষমতার লোভ কখন কাকে বেসামাল করে তোলে _ সেটা সুনির্দিষ্টভাবে বলা খুবই কঠিন।

এ সকল কথায় বৈরাম খাঁ অনেকটা প্রভাবিত হয়ে উঠলেন। একদিকে মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রতি আনুগত্য আর অন্যদিকে ক্ষমতার লোভ।এদুটো বিষয় বৈরাম খাঁকে সত্যি সত্যিই বেসামাল করে তুললো‌।

এবার বৈরাম খাঁ না পারছেন সম্রাট আকবারের পক্ষে কথা বলতে আর না পারছেন বারুদ খাঁ ও কামান খাঁর পক্ষে কথা বলতে।

তাই বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“আমি তোমাদের কথা বিবেচনা করে দেখব।আমি হচ্ছি আকবারের অভিভাবক।তাই তোমাদের কথা মতো আকবারের সাথে আমি বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করতে পারব না। আবার তোমাদের কথায় যুক্তিও আছে।আচ্ছা,আমি এখন যাচ্ছি,তোমরা তোমাদের কাজ করতে থাক।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আমরা ধরে নিচ্ছি যে,আপনি আমাদের কথায় রাজি হয়েছেন।তাই আমরা আমাদের কাজ শুরু করে দিচ্ছি।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“ঠিক আছে।” এরপর তিনি নিজের মহলে চলে গেলেন।

সাত.

ছেলে খেলার প্ররোচনা।‌

পরদিন থেকেই আকবারের জন্য সুন্দর সুন্দর মেয়ের ব্যবস্থা করা হলো।

কিন্তু ওদের সাথে আকবারের হৈ হুল্লোড় চলতে লাগলো।এটা দেখে বারুদ খাঁ আর কামান খাঁ ভাবতে লাগলো,আকবার এবার সাম্রাজ্য বাদ দিয়ে মেয়ে মানুষ নিয়ে ব্যাস্ত হয়ে পড়বেন।

ওদের এই আশার কিছুটা পূর্ণ হলেও সম্পূর্ণভাবে পূর্ণ হয় নি।

কেননা সুন্দর সুন্দর মেয়েদেরকে নিয়ে সম্রাট আকবার হৈ হুল্লোড় করার পর সাম্রাজ্যের হিসাব ঠিক ঠিকভাবে নিতে লাগলেন।

এটা দেখে কামান খাঁ আর বারুদ খাঁর প্রতিহিংসা আরো মাথা চাড়া দিয়ে উঠলো।

আট.

আবার ষড়যন্ত্র।

সেদিনের মতো আকবারের রাজ দরবারের কাজ শেষ হওয়ার পর বৈরাম খাঁকে নিয়ে কামান খাঁ আর বারুদ খাঁ আবার ষড়যন্ত্রে লিপ্ত হলো।

বৈরাম খাঁকে বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আমরা যতটুকু সহজ মনে করেছিলাম,ততোটুকু সহজ হলো না। অপ্রত্যাশিতভাবে আকবার নিজেকে সামলে নিয়েছে।এখন একটাই কাজ করতে হবে।ভরা রাজ সভায় আকবারের উপর আপনি মাতব্বরি ফলাবেন,যাতে সকলেই বুঝতে পারে যে,আপনাকে ছাড়া আকবার একেবারেই চলতে পারে না। অর্থাৎ,আপনার পুতুল রাজা হিসেবে আকবার নামমাত্র সম্রাট হিসেবে সিংহাসনে বসে আছে।”

ততোদিনে বৈরাম খাঁ বিভ্রান্ত হয়ে পড়েছেন।তিনি এতোদিন মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রতি অনুগত ছিলেন,এখনো আছেন। কিন্তু সম্রাট বাসনা তিনিকে বিভ্রান্ত করা শুরু করেছে।একদিকে মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রতি আনুগত্য,আরেক দিকে সম্রাট হওয়ার বাসনায় বৈরাম খাঁর অবস্থা প্রায় বেসামাল।

তিনি কোন মতে নিজেকে সামলে বললেন,“আমি চেষ্টা করব এটা করার। কিন্তু তোমাদের মতো আমি এতোটা আগ্ৰাসি হব না।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আপনাকে আগ্ৰাসি হতে হবে না।আগ্ৰাসি যতটুকু হওয়ার আমরা হব।আপনি শুধু আকবারের উপর অভিভাবক ফলাবেন।বাকিটা আমরাই সামলে নেব।”

একথা বলার পর সেদিনের মতো ষড়যন্ত্র শেষ হলো।

নয়. (Nine)

রাজদরবারে মাতুব্বরি। (Leading in the royal court.)

পরদিন থেকেই শুরু হলো রাজদরবারে বৈরাম খাঁর মাতুব্বরি।

একটা কিছু হতে না হতেই শুরু হয়ে যায় বৈরাম খাঁর শাসন বারন।

“তুমি এটা করলে কেন?তুমি ওটা করলে কেন?তুমি এটা বললে কেন?তুমি ওটা বললে কেন?তুমি এভাবে বসলে কেন?তুমি ওভাবে বসলে কেন?” সম্রাট আকবারকে বৈরাম খাঁ এভাবেই শাসন করতে লাগলেন।

এমনভাবে সম্রাট আকবারকে বৈরাম খাঁ শাসন করতে লাগলেন,যেন সম্রাট আকবার একটা নির্বোধ বালক মাত্র।

কেউকে কিছু না বলা সত্ত্বেও রাজদরবারে উপস্থিত সকলেই বুঝতে শুরু করলেন যে, আকবার নিছক নামমাত্র সম্রাট।মূলত বৈরাম খাঁ_ই হচ্ছেন মুঘল সাম্রাজ্যের প্রধান ব্যক্তি।

একটা সময় এই বিষয়টা রাজসভায় সীমাবদ্ধ রইলো না। রাজসভা থেকে সেনাবাহিনী,এমনকি অন্দর মহলেও বিষয়টা জানাজানি হতে লাগলো।

দশ.

নজরদারিতে বৈরাম খাঁ।

আকবার শুরুতে অন্য দশ জন বালকের মতোই খেলাধূলা করতে লাগলেন। বাবা মারা যাওয়ার পর যতটুকু দুঃখ _ বেদনা ছিলো, সেটা এখন মেয়েদের সাথে খেলাধূলা করে কমে যেতে লাগলো।

ওরা ভেবেছিলো, মেয়েদের সাথে খেলাধূলা করে আকবার সাম্রাজ্যের বিষয় ভুলে যাবেন। আর অতি সহজেই আকবারের সিংহাসন ওরা দখল করে নেবে।

কিন্তু বালক সম্রাট আকবারের সন্দেহ শুরু এটা দেখে যে, মেয়েদের সাথে ফুর্তি করার সময় বৈরাম খাঁ কিছুই বলেন না_অথচ রাজ সভায় শাসনের কোন শেষ নাই।

এই কারণে বৈরাম খাঁর প্রতি আকবারের সন্দেহ জাগ্ৰত হলো। কেননা, বর্তমানে আকবারের অভিভাবক হিসেবে বৈরাম খাঁ সক্রিয় আছেন।

তাই বৈরাম খাঁকে সম্রাট আকবার নজরদারিতে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করলেন। এর জন্য রাজ সভার একজনকে সম্রাট আকবার নিয়োজিত করে রাখলেন।

কিন্তু সেই লোককে সম্রাট আকবার এটাও বলে রাখলেন,বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করলে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেয়া হবে।

এগারো.

সন্দেহ যখন বাস্তব হলো।

কিন্তু একটা ঘটনার পর বৈরাম খাঁর ব্যাপারে সম্রাট আকবারের সন্দেহ বাস্তব বিষয়ে পরিণত হলো।

সম্রাট আকবার নিজ খাস কামরায় তিনির চেয়ে প্রায় দশ বছরের বড় একটা অবিবাহিত মেয়ের সাথে ইনটিমেট হলেন।

এরপর তিনি মখমলের বিছানায় বসে কস্তুরি মিশ্রিত আঙুরের রস খাচ্ছিলেন আর ভাবের জগতে ডুবে যাচ্ছিলেন।

এমন সময় মেয়েটা বিধ্বস্ত অবস্থায়‌ কোনমতে বিছানা থেকে উঠে সম্রাট আকবারের পায়ের কাছে বসল।

মেয়েটা সম্রাট আকবারের পা মালিশ করতে করতে জিজ্ঞেস করলো,“তুমি যখন আফগানিস্তানে চলে যাবে,তখন কি আমাদেরকে ভুলে যাবে?”

একথা শোনে সম্রাট আকবার হতবাক উঠলেন। কিন্তু তখনই নিজেকে সামলে নিলেন।

তিনি স্বাভাবিকভাবেই মেয়েটাকে বললেন,“তোমাদেরকে আমি কখনই ভুলতে পারব না। এমনকি আফগানিস্তানে আমি চলে গেলেও তোমাদেরকে আমার খুব মনে পড়বে।আচ্ছা,আমি যে আফগানিস্তানে চলে যাব,সেটা তুমি জানলে কীভাবে?”

মেয়েটা বলল,“আমি সেটা জেনেছি বারুদ চাচার স্ত্রী জামিনা চাচীর কাছ থেকে।”

মেয়েটা আরো কিছুক্ষণ সম্রাট আকবারের সেবাযত্ন করল।এরপর মেয়েটাকে একটা মুক্তার মালা উপহার দিয়ে সম্রাট আকবার বিদায় করলেন।

বারো.

বারুদ খাঁর বউ জামিনাকে তলব।

সেদিনই বারুদ খাঁর বউ জামিনাকে সম্রাট আকবার খবর দিয়ে নিজের মহলে আনলেন।

সম্রাট আকবার জিজ্ঞেস করলেন,“এই ভারতের প্রতি আমার মন বিষিয়ে উঠেছে। আমি আফগানিস্তানে চলে যাব।তবে বিষয়টা সকলেই জানে না।আমি কয়েকজনকে বিষয়টা বলছিলাম।তা আপনি এটা জানলেন কীভাবে?”

জামিনা বলল,“আমার স্বামী আমাকে বলেছেন।আর তিনি সেটা জেনেছেন মহান সেনাপতি বৈরাম খাঁর কাছ থেকে।”

একথা শোনার পর জামিনাকে সম্রাট আকবার কিছু স্বর্ণ মুদ্রা উপহার দিয়ে বিদায় দিলেন।

তেরো.

বারুদ খাঁ ও কামান খাঁকে হত্যা।

সেদিন আবার বৈরাম খাঁকে নিয়ে বারুদ খাঁ আর কামান খাঁ ষড়যন্ত্রে লিপ্ত হলো।

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আকবারের কাছে মেয়ে মানুষকে পাঠিয়ে তেমন কাজ হচ্ছে না।মেয়ে মানুষদের সাথে সে ঠিকই ফুর্তি করছে, আবার রাজ্যের হিসাবও নিচ্ছে।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“এভাবে চলতে থাকলে আমাদের ষড়যন্ত্র সম্পর্কে আকবার জেনে ফেলবে।তখন সে আমাদেরকে হত্যা করতেও দ্বিধা করব না।তাই আমাদের ষড়যন্ত্র জানার আগেই আকবারকে আমাদের হত্যা করতে হবে।”

কামান খাঁ বলল,“আকবারকে হত্যা করা কি এতোই সহজ?সে ওর মহলের নিরাপত্তা আরো জোরদার করেছে।”

বৈরাম খাঁ হতবাক হয়ে বললেন,“ছিঃ, তোমরা এরকম কীভাবে হলে? আমাদের সম্রাটকে আমরা কেন হত্যা করব? এটা কোনভাবেই আমরা করব না।”

বারুদ খাঁ বলল,“আকবারকে আমরা হত্যা করবই। আমাদেরকে সেটা করতেই হবে।”

ক্ষমতার লোভে পড়ে বৈরাম খাঁ রাজি হলেন।তিনি বললেন,“আচ্ছা, তোমাদের কথা আমি মেনে নিলাম। কিন্তু আকবারকে হত্যা করতে হবে অত্যন্ত কৌশল করে। সে বয়সে বালক হলেও বুদ্ধিতে খুবই অভিজ্ঞ মানুষের মতো।”

এমন সময় সম্রাট আকবার সৈন্য নিয়ে উপস্থিত হলেন। তিনিকে দেখে সকলেই হতবাক হয়ে গেলো। বারুদ খাঁ আর কামান খাঁকে সৈন্যরা পাকড়াও করলো।আর সম্রাট আকবার তাদেরকে হত্যা করলেন।

চোদ্দ.

বৈরাম খাঁর নির্বাসন।

আকবারের বিশ্বস্ত লোক গনি মির্জা বলল,“সম্রাট, এবার বৈরাম খাঁকেও আমরা হত্যা করব।”

আকবার বললেন,“না, বৈরাম খাঁকে আমি হত্যা করব না। বরং তাকে আমি নির্বাসনে পাঠিয়ে দেব। সে আমার সাথে সে বিশ্বাস ঘাতকতা করেছে, কিন্তু অতীতে সে ছিলো আমার একনিষ্ঠ সেবক। তাই আমি তাকে হত্যা করব না।”

পরদিন বৈরাম খাঁকে সম্রাট আকবার নির্বাসনে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।

সম্রাট আকবার দেখলেন, বৈরাম খাঁ ঘোড়ায় উঠে ইরানের দিকে যাচ্ছে। আরো কিছুক্ষণ বৈরাম খাঁর চলে যাওয়া দেখলেন। এরপর চলে এলেন নিজের মহলে।

পনেরো.

বৈরাম খাঁর পরিচয় প্রকাশ।

পথ চলতে চলতে বৈরাম খাঁ চলে এলেন বহুদূর। এই স্থান থেকে দেখা যায়না সম্রাট আকবারের প্রাসাদ‌। এবং সম্রাট আকবারের সৈন্য বাহিনীকেও দেখা যায়না।

আরো পথ পেরোলেন। এবার পেলেন একটা ছোট জনপদ। এই এলাকার লোকদেরকে লেখে বৈরাম খাঁর মনে হলো, ওরা কৃষি কাজ করে জীবন নির্বাহ করে।

বৈরাম খাঁকে ঘোড়ায় চড়ে আগমন করতে দেখে অনেক লোক এসে জড়ো হলো।

আলালকে আবুল বলল,“এই লোক নিশ্চয়ই বড় সওদাগর হবে। ভারতে ব্যবসা করেছে। এখন ব্যবসা শেষ করে ইরান যাচ্ছে আরো মালামাল আনার জন্য। নিশ্চয়ই ওর কাছে প্রচুর স্বর্ণমুদ্রা আছে। চলঝ, আমরা ওর সেবাযত্ন করি। তাহলে হয়তো সে খুশি হয়ে আমাদেরকে পুরস্কার স্বরূপ স্বর্ণমুদ্রা দেবে।”

একথা শোনে আলাল বলল,“চলো সেটাই করি। অনেক দিন যাবৎ আমাদের কাছে তেমন টাকা নাই। এবার এই সওদাগরের সেবা করে টাকা পাবো।”

একথা বলে ওরা দুজনই এগিয়ে গেলো বৈরাম খাঁর কাছে।

আলাল বলল,“জনাব, আপনাকে দেখে মনে হচ্ছে, আপনি দীর্ঘ পথ অতিক্রম করেছেন। তাই দয়া করে যদি আমাদের বাড়িতে বিশ্রাম নিতেন, তাহলে আমরা ধন্য হয়ে যেতাম।”

আবুল বলল,“জ্বি জনাব, আপনি দয়া করে আমাদের এলাকায় বিশ্রাম গ্ৰহণ করুন।”

একথা শোনে বৈরাম খাঁ ভাবলেন,“অনেক পথ তো অতিক্রম করলাম।এবার বিশ্রাম নিয়ে ইরানের পথে আবার চলা শুরু করব।”

আলালকে বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“চলো, তোমার ঘরেই আমি বিশ্রাম নেব। তবে একদিনের বেশি আমি থাকবনা।”

আলাল ভাবলো,“এমন সেবা করব যে, এই লোক একদিনেই প্রচুর স্বর্ণমুদ্রা দিয়ে দেবেন।”

এরপর বৈরাম খাঁকে আলাল ঘরে নিয়ে গেলো।

লেবুর শরবত খাওয়ার পর বৈরাম খাঁ একটু পাশ ফিরে শুইলেন। হাতপাখা দিয়ে বাতাস করতে করতে আলাল জিজ্ঞেস করল,“জনাব, আপনার পরিচয় কী? আপনি কোথা থেকে এসেছেন?”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“আমার নাম বৈরাম খাঁ, আমি দিল্লি থেকে এসেছি। আমি ছিলাম সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের সেনাপতি এবং বর্তমান সম্রাট আকবারের সেনাপতি।”

একথা শোনে আলাল ভাবলো,“লোকটা পাগল নাকি? বৈরাম খাঁ বলে নিজেকে দাবি করতেছে। লোকটা একাকী এভাবে কোথায় যাচ্ছে?”

বৈরাম খাঁকে আলাল বলল,“জনাব, আপনি কোথায় যাচ্ছেন? আর আপনি এভাবে একা কেন?”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“প্রাসাদ ষড়যন্ত্রের কারণে আমাকে সম্রাট আকবার নির্বাসনে পাঠিয়েছেন। তাই আমি এখন ইরানে চলে যাচ্ছি। কতিপয় ব্যক্তি সম্রাট আকবারকে হত্যা করার ব্যবস্থা করেছিলো। এবং আমাকে সম্রাট বানাতে চেয়েছিলো। কিন্তু ওরা ধরা পড়ে যায়। তাই ওদেরকে সম্রাট আকবার হত্যা করেছেন। কিন্তু আমাকে নির্বাসনে পাঠিয়েছেন।”

অতীতে আলাল কখনই বৈরাম খাঁকে দেখেনি। তাই বৈরাম খাঁ ঘুমিয়ে পড়লে সে ঘর থেকে বের হয়ে গেলো।

আলাল অতীতে বৈরাম খাঁকে না দেখলেও ওর পিতামহ আবেদ খাঁ একবার বৈরাম খাঁকে দেখেছিলেন।

তাই আলাল গেলো ওর পিতামহের কাছে এবং সকল কথা বলল।

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“আমি অনেক আগে বৈরাম খাঁকে দিল্লিতে দেখেছিলাম। ওই লোক যদি বৈরাম খাঁ হয়, তাহলে ওর আজ রেহাই নাই।”

আলাল বিস্মিত হয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করল,“আপনি কেন এগুলো বলতেছেন?”

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“আমাদের এই দুর্দশার জন্য বৈরাম খাঁ দায়ি। আমরা আফগান পাঠান। আমরাই ছিলাম এই ভারতবর্ষের শাসক। কিন্তু মোগলরা এসে ক্ষমতা দখল করে নেয়‌‌। এরপর হুমায়ুনকে শেরশাহ পরাজিত করেছিলেন‌। কিন্তু বৈরাম খাঁর নেতৃত্বে ইরানি সৈন্যরা হুমায়ুনকে আবার ক্ষমতায় বসিয়েছিলো। এই কারণেই বর্তমানে আমরা পাঠানদের এই দুর্দশা। যদি ওই লোক বৈরাম খাঁ হয়, তাহলে তাকে আমি আজ হত্যা করে প্রতিশোধ নেব।”

একথা বলে আবেদ খাঁ প্রবেশ করলেন আলালের ঘরে। গিয়ে দেখলেন, সত্যিই বৈরাম খাঁ শুয়ে আছেন।

তাই আবেদ খাঁ খাপ থেকে তলোয়ার বের করে বৈরাম খাঁকে গেলেন হত্যা করার জন্য।

কিন্তু তাকে আলাল থামিয়ে বলল,“না পিতামহ, বৈরাম খাঁকে আপনি হত্যা করবেন না। কেননা, তিনি এখন আমার মেহমান। আমি কখনই তা হতে দেব না।”

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“আচ্ছা, বৈরাম খাঁকে তোমার ঘরে আমি হত্যা করব না। কিন্তু তোমার ঘরের বাইরে তাকে আমি হত্যা করলে, তুমি আমাকে আটকাবেনা।”

একথা বলে আবেদ খাঁ বের হয়ে গেলেন আলালের ঘর থেকে।

ষোল.

নিহত হলেন বৈরাম খাঁ।

পরদিন আলালের ঘর থেকে বৈরাম খাঁ বিদায় নিয়ে চলতে লাগলেন ইরানের পথে।

প্রায় দশ মাইল যাওয়ার পর আবেদ খাঁর সাথে বৈরাম খাঁর দেখা হলো।

মূলত শেষ রাতেই ঘুম থেকে উঠে আবেদ খাঁ এখানে এসে অপেক্ষা করতে থাকেন বৈরাম খাঁর আগমনের জন্য।

এই এলাকায় ইরানে যাওয়ার এটাই একমাত্র পথ। পাহাড়ের মধ্য দিয়ে তৈরি হওয়া পথ ধরেই যাওয়া আসা করতে হয়।

আবেদ খাঁ ঘোড়া নিয়ে বৈরাম খাঁর পথ আটকে দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন। পথ আটকানোর কারণে বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“আমি তো যেতে পারছিনা। তুমি সরো।”

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“আমি তোমাকে হত্যা করার জন্য দাঁড়িয়ে আছি।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“তোমার কত বড় সাহস? আমাকে তুমি হত্যা করতে চাও। তুমি কি জানো আমি কে? আমি মোগল সাম্রাজ্যের সেনাপতি বৈরাম খাঁ।”

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“আমি গতকালই তোমাকে চিনতে পেরেছি। এখন তোমার মুখে পরিচয় শোনে আরো নিশ্চিত হলাম। বৈরাম খাঁ, আজ তোমার রেহাই নাই। যত পাঠান সেনাকে তুমি হত্যা করেছো, এর প্রতিশোধ আজ আমি নেব।”

বৈরাম খাঁ বললেন,“মোগল সাম্রাজ্যের সেনাপতি হিসেবে আমি আমার দায়িত্ব পালন করেছি। সেই সূত্রে পাঠান সেনারা নিহত হয়েছে।”

আবেদ খাঁ বললেন,“এখন নিহত পাঠান সেনাদের প্রতিনিধি হয়ে আমি তোমাকে হত্যা করব।”

আবেদ খাঁ একথা বলে খাপ থেকে তলোয়ার বের করে বৈরাম খাঁর দিকে ঘোড়া ছুটালেন। বৈরাম খাঁ ঘোড়ার উপরে বসেই খাপ থেকে তলোয়ার বের করে আবেদ খাঁর দিকে ঘোড়া ছুটালেন। দুজনেই তলোয়ার দ্বারা যুদ্ধ করতে লাগলেন।

কিছুক্ষণ পর বৈরাম খাঁর ঘোড়া পাথরে হোঁচট লাগলো এবং উলটে পড়ল। তাই বৈরাম খাঁ উল্টে পতিত হলেন মাটিতে। আর মাটিতে থাকা একটা পাথরে বৈরাম খাঁর মাথাটা আঘাত লাগলো। এর ফলে বৈরাম খাঁর অজ্ঞান হলেন না, কিন্তু চোখে অন্ধকার দেখতে পেলেন।

এই সুযোগে আবেদ খাঁ ঘোড়া থেকে নামলেন। এবং বৈরাম খাঁকে হত্যা করলেন।

কিছুক্ষণ বিশ্রাম নিলেন আবেদ খাঁ। এরপর বৈরাম খাঁর দেহটাকে বৈরাম খাঁর ঘোড়ার পিঠে শক্ত করে বাঁধলেন। এবার আবেদ খাঁ নিজের ঘোড়ার উপরে উঠলেন। বৈরাম খাঁর ঘোড়ার দড়িটা একহাতে ধরলেন, এবং আরেক হাতে নিজের ঘোড়া চালাতে লাগলেন আবেদ খাঁ। ঘোড়া ছুটিয়ে আবেদ খাঁ চলে এলেন লোকালয়ের কাছে।

এরপর বৈরাম খাঁর লাশটা আবেদ খাঁ ঘোড়া থেকে নামালেন। এরপর মুসলিম রীতিতে দাফন করলেন।

বৈরাম খাঁর ঘোড়া থেকে সকল জিনিসপত্র নামালেন, এবং ফেলে দিলেন পাহাড়ি নদীতে। এরপর ঘোড়াটাকে মুক্ত করে দিলেন। কিছুদিন পর এই ঘোড়াটা বুনো ঘোড়ায় পরিণত হবে।

এরপর আবেদ খাঁ নিজের ঘোড়ার উঠলেন এবং চলতে লাগলেন নিজের গ্ৰামের দিকে।
