RJ Chowdhury was watering the roots of the trees in his garden in the morning. At that time, a gentleman came and started calling.
Then RJ Chowdhury came out of the garden and asked the man, what's the matter? Who is calling me this early in the morning?”
Then the gentleman said, “There is a big problem in our area. Some people are coming and extorting huge amount of money from every family. Now I have come to consult you about this.”
RJ Chowdhury said, “Why are you telling me this? You can tell it to the police.”
The gentleman said, “We have been threatened, if we inform the police, the consequences will be terrible.”
RJ Chowdhury said, “Look, I am a private detective. But I charge enough money for each case. I am not a hobbyist detective who will dig and solve cases on my own. As the price of goods has increased, the price of everything has increased. So in this situation, I can't fight the case without money. And even then, I pay huge amount of money to Govt to keep licensed arms. All in all, I have to settle for money.”
Then the gentleman said, “Well, you will be paid a lot of money to solve this case.”
Then RJ Chowdhury said, “Well, give me your name and address, I will go to work today.”
Then the gentleman said his name, “Name Sunam Chandra ray, home Kutta danga.”
RJ Chowdhury said, “You have come from that Kutta danga? Kutta danga is far away. First I have to go by auto rickshaw, then by bus, then again by CNG, again by auto rickshaw. Then I have to leave around ten to eleven. When did you come?”
The gentleman said, “I came to you in the dark of the night at three o'clock and waited for morning.”
RJ Chowdhury said, “Then have breakfast with me and leave for Kutta danga. I am here around eleven.”
The gentleman had breakfast with RJ Chowdhury and said, “Well, doesn't it scare you that you investigate so much?”
RJ Chowdhury said, “No, I'm not afraid. Because I have two licensed shotguns, an SKS rifle, a revolver, and my favorite Glock Nineteen pistol. If I have a Glock Nineteen pistol, I think two thousand people are guarding me. Even the AK-47 rifle fell in front of the Glock Nineteen within twenty meters. So, after so much investigation, I am not afraid.”
Sunam Roy said, “You carry licensed weapons. That's why you pay enough money to the government of the country. But why do you travel in rickshaws, CNG, buses, trains and vans to investigate?”
RJ Chowdhury said, “It is for the investigation. In this way, I can do the investigations easily because I move naturally. Otherwise, if two or three assistants are taken with a private car, the investigation will be disturbed. Because the criminals can be alerted beforehand.”
Now Sunam Roy went to Kutta danga.
At eleven o'clock, RJ Chowdhury left the house and took an auto-rickshaw to the bus stand. After that from the bus stand took the bus further away. From there, CNG went further. Again went to Kutta danga by auto rickshaw from the CNG stand.
Went to Sunam Roy's house as per the address. After a while, two extortionists came and demanded subscription. Then Sunam Roy called the two and took them to RJ Chowdhury.
RJ Chowdhury was then sitting on the sofa in Sunam Roy's drawing room.
RJ Chowdhury said, “Why are you demanding contribution from everyone in Kutta danga?”
The two said, “We are Lalu and Kalu. We are the top terrors in this Kutta danga. If there were dogs in Kutta danga, they would run away, seeing us. And you ask us, why are we asking for money?”
Then RJ Chowdhury said, “Sunam Roy is my client. I have taken a lot of money from Sunam Roy for the investigation. So, I am working for Sunam Roy. Both of you must tell me why you are demanding money?”
Then Lalu said, “What can you do to us if we don't answer you?”
RJ Chowdhury then took out the Glock Nineteen pistol from behind his shirt and said, “If you don't answer correctly, I will shoot and break both of your legs.”
Then Kalu said, “There will be a political conference in this Kutta danga. So, we are extorting money around the political conference. We are making people understand that if they don't pay us, there will be a big fight in the conference between some groups. And they will come and destroy your houses. If you want to live, then give us a contribution. We will control the riots at that political conference.”
RJ Chowdhury said, “Do the leaders of the political parties know that you are extorting the name of the conference?”
Lalu said, “No, political party leaders don't know that. We are extorting money from people by talking about the convention.”
Hearing this, RJ Chowdhury told Sunam Roy, “You call the leader of that conference and tell him that his name is being extorted.”
Then Sunam Roy called the leader and said. The leader then said, “We do politics. Yes, we have groupings. But we don't collect money from people by talking about fights. Those who are collecting money by breaking our name, you hand them over to the police.”
Hearing this, Sunam Roy called the Kutta danga police. Then the Kutta danga police came and took Lalu and Kalu to the police station.
Now Sunam Roy said to RJ Chowdhury, “You have done us a great favor. I will never forget this favor of yours.”

"রাজনৈতিক সম্মেলনকে কেন্দ্র করে চাঁদাবাজির মহোৎসব শুরু হয়েছিল, সেটা আরজে চৌধুরী দমন করল।"
আরজে চৌধুরী সকাল বেলা নিজের বাগানে গাছের গোড়ায় পানি দিচ্ছিল। এমন সময় এক ভদ্রলোক এসে ডাকাডাকি শুরু করল।
তখন আরজে চৌধুরী গাছের বাগান থেকে বের হয়ে এসে লোকটাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল,কী ব্যাপার? এতো সকালে আমাকে ডাকাডাকি করছেন কে?"
তখন ওই ভদ্রলোক বললেন,"একটা বিরাট সমস্যা আছে আমাদের এলাকায়। কিছু লোক এসে প্রত্যেক পরিবারের কাছ থেকে মোটা অঙ্কের টাকা আদায় করছে। এখন এ ব্যাপারে আপনার সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করতে এসেছি।"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"এটা আমাকে বলছেন কেন? এটা পুলিশকে বললেই তো পারেন।"
ভদ্রলোক বললেন,"আমাদেরকে হুমকি দেয়া হয়েছে, যদি পুলিশকে জানাই, তাহলে পরিণতি খুব খারাপ হবে।"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"দেখুন, আমি একজন প্রাইভেট ডিটেকটিভ। তবে প্রত্যেকটা কেসের জন্য আমি যথেষ্ট পরিমাণে টাকা নিই। আমি শখের গোয়েন্দা না যে, নিজের খেয়ে খুঁচিয়ে খুঁচিয়ে কেস বের করে মাগনা সমাধান করে দেব। দ্রব্যমূল্যের যেভাবে দাম বেড়েছে, তাতে সকল কিছুতেই মূল্যবৃদ্ধি হয়েছে। তাই এ অবস্থায় বিনা পয়সায় আমি কেস লড়তে পারব না। আর এমনিতেও লাইসেন্স করা অস্ত্র রাখার জন্য গভমেন্টকে আমি মোটা অঙ্কের টাকা দেই। সকল কিছু মিলিয়েই আমাকে টাকার বিনিময়ে সমাধান করতে হয়।"
তখন ভদ্রলোক বললেন,"আচ্ছা এ কেসের সমাধানের জন্য আপনাকে অনেক টাকা দেয়া হবে।"
তখন আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"আচ্ছা, আপনার নাম ঠিকানা দেন,আমি আজই কাজে নামব।"
তখন ভদ্রলোক নিজের নাম বললেন,"নাম সুনাম চন্দ্ররায়, বাড়ি কুত্তাডাঙ্গায়।"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"আপনি ওই কুত্তাডাঙ্গা থেকে এসেছেন? কুত্তাডাঙ্গা তো অনেক দূরে। আমাকে প্রথমে যেতে হবে অটোরিকশায়, এরপরে বাসে, এরপরে আবার সিএনজিতে, আবার অটোরিকশায়। তাহলে তো আমাকে রওনা হতে হবে দশটা এগারোটার দিকে। আপনি কখন এসেছেন?"
ভদ্রলোক বললেন,"চাঁদাবাজদের ভয়ে রাতের আঁধারে তিনটার সময় আপনার কাছে এসেছি আর সকাল হওয়ার জন্য অপেক্ষা করেছি।"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"তাহলে এখন আমার সঙ্গে নাস্তা করে কুত্তাডাঙ্গা চলে যান। আমি এগারোটার দিকে এসেছি।"
আরজে চৌধুরীর সঙ্গে ভদ্রলোক নাস্তা করে বললেন,"আচ্ছা, আপনি যে এতো তদন্ত করেন আপনার কি ভয় করে না?"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"না, আমার ভয় করে না।কেননা লাইসেন্স করা আমার দুটো শটগান আছে, একটা এসকেএস রাইফেল আছে, একটা রিভলবার আছে এবং আমার সবচেয়ে প্রিয় গ্লক নাইন্টিন পিস্তল আছে। আমার কাছে একটা গ্লক নাইন্টিন পিস্তল থাকলে, আমি মনে করি যে দুহাজার মানুষ আমাকে গার্ড দিচ্ছে। বিশ মিটারের মধ্যে একে-৪৭ রাইফেলও গ্লক নাইন্টিনের সামনে ফেল। তাই এতো তদন্ত করার পরও আমি ভয় পাই না।"
সুনাম রায় বললেন,"আপনি লাইসেন্স করা অস্ত্র বহন করেন।তাই আপনি দেশের গভমেন্টকে যথেষ্ট টাকা দেন। অথচ তদন্ত করার জন্য রিকশা, সিএনজি, বাস, ট্রেন ও ভ্যান গাড়িতে চলাচল করেন কেন?"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"সেটা তদন্তের স্বার্থে। এভাবে আমি স্বাভাবিকভাবেই চলাচল করি বলেই তদন্তগুলো সহজ ভাবে করতে পারি। তা না হলে ঢাকঢোল পিটিয়ে, প্রাইভেটকার নিয়ে সঙ্গে দুজন, তিনজন সহকারী নিয়ে গেলে তদন্তের ব্যাঘাত ঘটে। কেননা তাতে অপরাধীরা আগেই সতর্ক হয়ে যেতে পারে।"
এবার সুনাম রায় কুত্তাডাঙ্গায় চলে গেলেন।
এগারোটার সময় আরজে চৌধুরী বাড়ি থেকে বের হয়ে অটোরিকশা উঠে বাসস্ট্যান্ডে গেল। এরপরে বাসস্ট্যান্ড থেকে বাসে করে গেল আরো অনেক দূরে। সেস্থান থেকে সিএনজিতে গেল আরো দূরে। আবার সিএনজি স্ট্যান্ড থেকে অটোরিকশায় গেল কুত্তাডাঙ্গায়। গিয়ে ঠিকানা মতো সুনাম রায়ের বাড়িতে গিয়ে উঠল।
কিছুক্ষণ পর দুজন চাঁদাবাজ এলো। এসে চাঁদা দাবি করল। তখন সুনাম রায় ওই দুজনকে ডেকে আরজে চৌধুরীর কাছে নিয়ে গেল।
আরজে চৌধুরী তখন সুনাম রায়ের ড্রয়িং রুমে সোফায় বসে ছিল। আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"তোমরা কেন কুত্তাডাঙ্গার সকলের কাছ থেকে চাঁদা দাবি করছো।"
ওই দুজন বলল,"আমরা লালু আর কালু। আমরা হচ্ছি এই কুত্তাডাঙ্গার সেরা রংবাজ। যদি কুত্তাডাঙ্গায় কুত্তা থেকে থাকে, তাহলে আমাদের দুজনকে দেখে পালাবে।আর তুমি আমাদেরকে জিজ্ঞেস করছো, আমরা কেন চাঁদা চাচ্ছি?"
তখন আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"সুনাম রায় আমার ক্লায়েন্ট। সুনাম রায়ের কাছ থেকে তদন্তের জন্য আমি অনেক টাকা নিয়েছি। তাই সুনাম রায়ের হয়ে আমি কাজ করছি। তোমাদের দুজনকে বলতেই হবে তোমরা কেন চাঁদা দাবি করছো?"
তখন লালু বলল,"তুমি কী করতে পারবে আমাদের, যদি তোমাকে আমরা উত্তর না দেই?"
আরজে চৌধুরী তখন শার্টের আড়াল থেকে গ্লক নাইনটিন পিস্তলটা বের করে বলল,"যদি তোমরা ঠিক ঠিক উত্তর না দাও, তাহলে গুলি করে তোমাদের দুজনের পা ভেঙে দেব।"
তখন কালু বলল,"এই কুত্তাডাঙ্গায় রাজনৈতিক সম্মেলন হবে। তাই রাজনৈতিক সম্মেলনকে কেন্দ্র করে আমরা চাঁদাবাজি করছি। আমরা মানুষকে বোঝাচ্ছি যে, যদি আমাদেরকে চাঁদা না দাও, তাহলে সম্মেলনে বিরাট মারামারি হবে কয়েকটা গ্রুপের মধ্যে। আর ওরা এসে তোমাদের বাড়িঘর ভেঙে দেবে।যদি বাঁচতে চাও, তাহলে আমাদেরকে চাঁদা দাও। আমরা ওই রাজনৈতিক সম্মেলনে দাঙ্গা হাঙ্গামা সামলে রাখব।"
আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"তোমরা যে সম্মেলনের নাম ভাঙ্গিয়ে চাঁদাবাজি করছো, সেটা কি রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতারা জানেন?"
লালু বলল,"না, রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতারা সেটা জানেন না।আমরা সম্মেলনের কথা বলে মানুষের কাছ থেকে চাঁদা আদায় করছি।"
এ কথা শুনে সুনাম রায়কে আরজে চৌধুরী বলল,"আপনি ওই সম্মেলনের নেতাকে ফোন করে বলুন যে, তিনিদের নাম ভাঙ্গিয়ে চাঁদাবাজি করা হচ্ছে।"
তখন সুনাম রায় সেই নেতাকে ফোন করে বললেন।নেতা তখন বললেন,"আমরা রাজনীতি করি। হ্যাঁ আমাদের মধ্যে গ্রুপিং আছে। কিন্তু আমরা মারামারির কথা বলে মানুষের কাছ থেকে চাঁদা আদায় করি না। যারা আমাদের নাম ভাঙ্গিয়ে চাঁদা আদায় করছে, ওদেরকে আপনারা পুলিশে দিয়ে দেন।"
এ কথা শুনে সুনাম রায় কুত্তাডাঙ্গার পুলিশকে ফোন করলেন। তখন কুত্তাডাঙ্গার পুলিশ এসে লালু আর কালুকে থানায় ধরে নিয়ে গেল।
এবার আরজে চৌধুরীকে সুনাম রায় বললেন,"আপনি আমাদের বিরাট উপকার করেছেন।আপনার এই উপকার আমি কোনদিন ভুলব না।"
